New Jag/Land Rover staff in talks over recession job deal

Jag/Land Rover staff in talks over recession job deal.

Staff @ Jaguar/Land Rover will vote in the next couple of weeks on a 52 week pay freeze and a 4-day working week as aposed to the standard 5-day week.

In return, they will be promised no compulsory job losses for two years.

In a deal agreed between unions and the firm's Indian owners, Tata. The move could save Jaguar/Land Rover upto £70 million per year.

A Jaguar/Land Rover spokesman released the statement: "The unions recognise the severity of the situation and the need to take action to achieve further cost reductions while avoiding further redundancies".

The "Gaydon-based" car maker cut 450 jobs in January and currently employs 15,000 workers at its factories in Castle Bromwich, Coventry and Solihull in the West Midlands and Halewood, Merseyside.

Fingers are crossed for them as the motor trade has been hit hard by the recession lately.
