This is good. internet phone calls for free. All you need is headphones with a mike and this small program and off you go. You must have broadband.

Works ok on my windows. Its free phone calls to other members I think. But it is not free to normal landline users.

Skype to skype is free. But if you want to phone a landline (BT number) you have to use Skypeout. you need to pay for this. I think its 4p a minute. Sod that, just use the free bit.:smile:

You can also get skype in where normal landline users can call our skype number. Fee to be paid. It's really good to travel with too. My pocket pc has wireless networking on it and you cn pick up free access almost anywhere. So that means free/cheap calls to and from anywhere

just be aware that skype is crystal clear so while the girls are gassing away over it, they can hear everything thats going on elsewhere in one anothers houses. i was talking to my dad over skype and could hear my mum going for a wee at the other end of the landing. She laughed when i shouted "mother! shut the bloody door woman!".

Cant you use things like MSN Messenger for video and voice messenging? I think if you have a cam and a microphone you can do the same I think...

you can use skype like a proper phone, it's voice over IP rather than traditional voice, but then even the voice exchanges have gone digital these days, so it's all kinda voice over data networks. messenger is just, well, messenger. plus it only runs on windoze. skype is available for all operating systems - which is nice ;o)

no video with skype as far as i'm aware. it didn't have that functionality when i last used it anyway. correct me if i'm wrong.

i guess there'll be a killer app come along sometime soon that will be perfect smooth video and crystal clear audio, runs on any OS PC/3G mobile and everyone with a computer will immediately ditch their phones and old mobiles and start using it, and everyone else who isn't gadgeted up to the nines will be left out in the cold. It'll not happen too soon, but it will happen. marketing forces will dictate it.

You can use MSN to talk as well. I imagine you'll need the same things as Skype for this to work.
I believe it to be called video confrencing or something.... :smile:

Just to let you all know, if you buy £10 skype out credit (this month i think), you will get 6 months free landline calls in the UK

Ive got it and it works a treat.
