Former Subaru World Champion Colin McRae has died after a helicopter registered to him crashed ½ mile from his home in Lanarkshire.
Emergency crews were alerted to the downed helicopter just after 4p.m on Sat 16<sup>th</sup> September 2007, Police said their were no survivors.

Colin won his first World Championship 1995 In a Subaru Impreza; to become <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Britain</st1:country-region></st1:place>’s first world rally champion; McRae was runner-up in 1996, 1997, and 2001.
The win in 1995 was the Inspiration for Subaru to launch the Special McRae 555 edition Impreza.

McRae was the son of five-times British Rally Champion, Jimmy McRae, and Brother to Alister McRae, another British rally hero.
Colin McRae was regarded as <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Britain</st1:place></st1:country-region>’s most successful rally driver.
