View Full Version : Low boost 0.6 bar!!!!!!!

I`ve just realised that my Bugeye WRX is only boosting to a maximum of approximately 0.6 bar. It usually boosts up to 1.2 bar.
But, my CEL is on as i`ve taken out the EGT sensor (exhaust gas temp sensor) after decatting the up-pipe. (Just trying to find a fix now) I`ve had the code read and confirmed its that which the light is on for too.
So, are these possibly related? would my car be in safe mode/limp home mode with the CEL on for this sensor? And, does safe mode even have anything to do with the boost anyhow?
Any advice appreciated
Cliff
The bigger sensor in the downpipe is the Lambda sensor and the smaller one is an 02 sensor to detect the efficiency of the cats. Leaving off the small sensor will give a steady CEL P0420 (cat below efficiency) eventually.
This will cause your boost to drop to limp home mode.
The CEL can be got round by a CEL fix or by an ECuTeK remap.
I will hunt round to see if I can find the fix.

Thanks Bob, this sensor is in the up pipe, or was should I say:biggrin: as mine used to have a cat before the turbo. Is this still the same situation?
Sounds like the EGT sensor to indicate the downpipe cat has overheated. No cats so no not required..
On the classic's it did not cause a problem with the CEL error coming in. But on new age the cel light does come in and will cause limp home mode.
You may end up putting a resistor across the connector or have a Tec3 map
Tec3 £700 ish
Resistor about 10p from Maplins.
Done a quick serch and most are using a 1/2W 2.2ohm resistor. Should be soldered in to make good conection....

Bigals has a cat cheat box he wants to sell. was on his 02 bugeye.
Make an offer and i will let him know.
He had to use this when he done a decat, and before he had his ecuteck

This CEL fix then, does it plug into the EGT sensor plug in the engine bay, or is it a solder into the ECU jobbie?
I`ve today found a 2.2k 0.6w resistor, do we reckon that`ll work as I couldnt find a 0.5w type.

ive decatted loads and never had this problem? the ones that didnt have the hole in the down pipe i just dissconected the sensor at the plug...it shouldnt matter as it detects peek temprature.....

By the sound of it the ecu has picked up that the cat isnt fitted by some means or another and put the engine in limp mode which involves cutting the boost down. This is to stop any damage happening to the engine but in your case theres no fault. this happens on most newer cars so the older ones wouldnt get this problem as ive just de-catted mine without a problem.
