Think thats the best part of it, encouraging people to give up. Hope it works as there will be alot healthier people out there. Even the non smokers.

i think people should be allowed to smoke as long as its not affecting others an they should make allowences for people who do smoke,
if it is a illness as im so often told then treat it like one,i dont see them banning people with colds from public places, but that could affect the health of others around them

plumbscooby
29-06-2007, 17:52 49
i can understand banning smoking in certain places but what about pubs why arnt there smoking pubs (staff could be smokers).?

whos going to pay for the health service if we all give up and if there that concerned about our health stop selling fags in the local shiop and ban it.

im sure theres more important issues the goverment could be dealing with but there you go!!:frown:

For those who are so harshly against it. I think thats a very selfish attitude. If I was to be diagnosed with lung cancer next week due to passive smoking then do you think your reasons not to have the ban is justified? You can fill your lungs with tar if you want but dont punish me for your dirty stinking habbit.:fuyou_2: This ban is the best thing the government have done in years. :sign0191:

Passive smoking has NEVER been proven, its just another government spin.
You are far more likely to contract lung cancer from the place you work. or because your genes make you predisposed to it.
The government are asking you to believe that there are a huge number of people who, at present, do not go out because of the "threat" of passive smoking, and banning it will allow them to come out of their houses.:rolleyes1: This is of course nonsense and Scotland has shown more than a 20% decrease in pub business not the predicted rise in customers that the government promised.

I am very much looking forward to some afternoons in pub gardens, chuffing away, and blowing smoke rings at anyone who dares to look down their nose or waft their hand in my direction.
I shall take great joy in greeting non smokers and ex smokers at the entrance to a pub as we congregate, making it so you have to walk through a cloud of cancer to get in.:rolleyes1:

I don't agree with a blanket ban. Why shouldn't the owners of premises be allowed to decide for themselves? There will be some who ban it but there will be alot more who couldn't care less either way and alot of pubs wouldn't ban it because smokers have money too.

The ban involves tobacco as far as I know, so whats stopping me gettin some herbal fags and sitting next to you in a restaurant and blowing it all over your dinner....nothing!

Dont take it so personally, each and everyone has there own opinion on this matter and there would always be a big devide between smokers and non smokers but the fact of the matter is YOU HAVE ONE MORE DAY so go sit in a pub and enjoy your last 24 hours turn them walls brown and enjoy your last day of social smoking.

PS Sainsburys are doing Nicorete gum, 2 for the price of 1, who says I dont have a heart xxx:tongue:

Before banning smoking surely the government should first ban the selling of tobacco. Bit like you are permitted to sale drugs but folks are not permitted to take them...:rolleyes1:
Next we will ban pubs because of folks coming out of them smelling of beer then restaurants that use garlic. The list goes on...

With respect olly thats an ignorant opinion you have. I understand from your point of view mate, you dont like to have to go outside but passive smoking is real and its killed alot of people, weather you think its real or not. When i walk into a smokey pub/club and start coughing then I call that passive and its not exactly good for you. Like I said if you want to polute your lungs then go for it but dont try killing off people that dont smoke around you. Id probably rather mustard gas, you die a hell of alot quicker than those stinking things you smoke.:hysterical::hysterical:

My ex smoked for years before he met me, and ALWAYS made a point of me smoking, and moaned at me whenever I had a fag, it used to (and still does) bloody pi$$ me off.

You can smoke in a Members only club.... as its not open to Members of the Public...

could soon see some pubs, becoming members only...

Yep, my local is a members club...:wink:That's why they advertise smoking on the door... I hear the place is really doing well with lots of new members joining....mind you rest of the pubs are M/T...:giggle:

 Can see my local going that way, people will just drink at home til later and go to the pub later on in the evening otherwise. Wont be good for buiseness, but then they wont be crouding up the bars for me.:giggle:

Well the bans having a good effect on alot of people, a few of my mates at work have quit smoking. Hope it catches on to others. Some smokers i spoke to today say they think its better now, they dont feel the need to smoke so much and feel better for it and dont mind going outside to smoke. :sign0191:

I must say, as a none smoker, i'm glad. There is nothing worse going out on an evening and coming home stinking of stale smoke. It also gives me problems with my lungs. So its good in my opinion.

Only had a pint and went over the road...Could not get in that place landlord said he will not be opening through the week any more just weekends... :frown:

Good girl H. Keep up the nagging. :love0030::hysterical: :innocent0009:

This may be harsh on people that already smoke but its gonna make a good effect on youngsters as there wont be as much of an appeal to start/try smoking.

I was in a couple pubs last night and it was great that it wasnt clouded up with smoke. It actually smelt quite nice in there. Everyone said the same. There were a few outside having a smoke but they didnt seem to mithed about it.

Sorry to hear that bob, people will get used to it and come back. Just have to adjust not being able to have a smoke in a pub now.

I have been getting fed up with working with moody people cause they can not get the fag.so I am against. But I also hate those smokers that feel it is there right to blow smoke in me face when they are smoking, with those people I am for the ban. hehehehe

It was the final push I needed to give up - haven't smoked for 8 weeks now. I do agree about teh civil liberties of smokers but have to say Pubs are much nicer places to be now
