I like them both. But the P1 has the edge on the WR1. The P1 still to this day, looks stunning. The WR1 just looks like another newage scoob.:wink:

It features a power upgrade to 320 bhp plus a host of technical and visual upgrades and costs £29,995 (approx. $54,000) on-the-road.
First unveiled in January at the ‘Autosport’ show in UK, the Prodrive-developed ‘WR1’ has just received official Subaru (http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/impreza_wrx_sti_wr1.asp#) (UK) engineering approval after recording the best performance figures ever for a road-going UK-spec Impreza.
Only 4.25 Seconds To Reach 60 mph
For example, 60 mph is reached in an astonishing 4.25 seconds with the 0-100 mph time at an equally impressive 10.67 seconds. Prodrive technicians also logged a quarter mile time of 12.8 seconds (http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/impreza_wrx_sti_wr1.asp#) while the top speed is limited to 155 mph.
By comparison, the ‘standard’ 265 bhp Impreza STI is quoted with a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 151.5 mph.
Peak power for the ‘WR1’ is 320 bhp at a relatively low 5,800 rpm, with maximum torque or pulling power of 309.8 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm.
The ‘standard’ STI produces 265 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 253 lb-ft torque at 4,000 rpm while the optional Prodrive-developed Performance Pack liberates 305 bhp and 299 lb-ft torque at the same revs and reaches 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and 100 mph in 12.2 seconds.
Other test track statistics see the ‘WR1’ shaving 0.7 seconds off the STI’s 30-50 mph time in 4th gear – down to 4.0 seconds – and 0.8 seconds off the 50-70 mph time in 5th – now 4.6 seconds.
Finally, illustrating its supercar-like performance, the new ‘WR1’ boasts an 80-100 mph time of a staggering 3.6 seconds in 4th gear and 6.5 seconds in 6th (4.6 and 7.8 seconds for the 265 bhp STI).
The ‘WR1’s extra power and torque are achieved thanks to a revised engine control unit (ECU), high-flow catalyst and sports silencer.

So who's right? Automan did tell me earlier today with reference to WR1's that "They are Prodrive mapped individually on Power Engineering's rolling road with the help of Mervyn the Ecutek support staff" Maybe they tweaked the cars given out for testing for the press releases a little bit more than the cars released to the public? It's not unheard of for car manufacturers to do this!!
I would not think so....:wink: Some of the lads on WR1 site advertise they have proven the 0-60 on the strip...But who knows a few years back we had a std uk scoob that convincingly beat STI's all day long. Did have 3 gearboxes replaced under warrentee though...:biggrin:

These times that get bantered about are only a benchmark I suppose, many cars are modified in some way, exhausts, air filters, remaps etc. The only true way to prove a cars acceleration is on a drag strip.
Although recently I have been putting my P1 up against my mates Audi RS6 and now mine is quicker. He's able to select sport mode then it's just a case of foot to the floor let the computers do everything and it runs very consistant sub 5sec 0-60's, Takes all the skill and fun out of it though!!
A lot of the times relate to the gearing...Its why the strip lads prefer the 5 speed less gear changes...:wink:

In a test by Performance Car magazine in the UK (December 1997), a modified Prodrive (http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#5.1) car was put through it's paces. Acceleration, with two people, full tank of fuel and a wet road surface gave a 0-60mph time of only 5.6 seconds, several tenths faster than the standard car. However, an unprinted test by Performance Car on the 1998 Prodrive demonstrator returned 4.94 and 5.08 seconds under the same conditions! The focus of the Prodrive engine mods is on real-world driving, and their changes give stunning mid-range performance. Combined with the 17" wheels and tyre set and improved suspension, there are few other cars (mostly expensive exotica) which can compete in terms of absolute A to B ability.

I think I'm right by saying but may stand corrected that Impreza WR1's and Sti's fitted with 6 speed gearboxes during official testing would only hit 58mph in 2nd gear so took an extra gear to hit 60mph.... So..... the 0>60mph times are very very quick considering this point. Cars such as P1 did over 60mph in 2nd gear!!!
I've had my Impreza Sti Type UK at Castle Combe with my friends P1 and to be honest there is very little difference if any down the straights but in the corners mine is better because of the adjustable centre diff and LSD front diff..............
I'll now sit back and await a public hanging.

7400rpm is 60 mph in 2nd....won't your STI do that? WR1 will....:hysterical: I also find the WR1 corners better than the P1 but it just does not feel as fast. With the DCCD in auto it does pull you out of a lot of trouble.

Yea same box but 18" wheels...also the ECU has been played with, wonder if they lifted the rev limit up..I got carried away one night and booted it looked at the rev's and I was at 7500 and rev limiter was still not in...:eek: If you can hit 60 in second I would think it would be quicker but if going on to the 100 of course you would change at about 6500-6800.
Anyway to get any of the quoted figs you have to be a brute with the car, holding full throttle while changing gear hoping the rev limiter holds is not my idea of fun. Most of us would not dream of treating our motors in this way.

Ill have to go for the P1 for obveous reasons, But i wont disregard the WR1 just yet, as i would choose one if i was to buy a seconde scooby as they are more reliable, improved build quality, and have that sexy paint colour, but the P1 has that sence of drivers car for my self, you feel the power as you plant it, and has the shape most scooby fenatices will associate with Colin Mcrae.
