Had this problem for some time and cannot sort it.

Movie clips, video clips and WMP stuff will all play ok on Power DVD or quicktime.
But when using WMP, video clips and WMP stuff are ok but Movie clips will not play.

Comes up with:
Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.

Web Help gives.
Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.
Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
• Your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller, requires an updated driver. To determine if an updated driver is available, see Windows Update at the Microsoft Web site, or see the sound device manufacturer's Web site.
• Your sound device is not functioning properly. Try using Device Manager to check the status of your sound device.

To check the status of your sound device

1. Do one of the following:
 If you are running Windows XP, click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
 If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Manage.
2. In the pane on the left, click Device Manager.
3. In the pane on the right, expand Sound, video and game controllers, and then look for the name of your sound device.
4. Do one of the following:
 If your sound device is listed but the icon includes a red "X," the device has been disabled. To enable the device, right-click the icon, and then click Enable.
 If your sound device is not listed, in the pane on the right, expand Other devices. If Multimedia Audio Controller appears in the list, right-click the icon, and then click Update Driver or Update Driver Software. Follow the on-screen instructions to find and install the driver software.
If you are not able to find and install the correct driver software, see your computer manufacturer's or sound device manufacturer's Web site for further assistance.
• You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again. For details, see your computer manufacturer's or sound device manufacturer's Web site.
• You are trying to play a file on the Internet and the server might be temporarily unavailable or there might be a network issue. Try again later.
• You are trying to play an MP3 file that contains compressed ID3 headers. The ID3 header is a portion of the file that stores the song's album information (for example, the song name, artist name, album name, and genre). This information is sometimes called a "tag."
To fix the problem, make a copy of the file and then use a non-Microsoft ID3 tag editing program to remove or reset the file's ID3 headers. After you remove the ID3 headers, Windows Media Player should be able to play the MP3 file.
Attempting to remove ID3 headers might damage the file and make it unplayable. Therefore, always make a copy of the file before you edit it.
If this solution does not resolve the problem, the file might be corrupted.

In fire fox my default player is WMP so if I click a link to a Movie clip I get the above message. (Cannot play)
In Explorer my default is also WMP But if I click this link it plays in WMP…
Any Movie clip I save cannot be played with WMP.

Have loaded a driver program that gets all the latest drivers and installs them but still got this problem.

So you cant play the file Bob because there is no sound? If so, what is the model of your sound card and I will try and find an up to date driver for it.

If you're having a problem with a 'codec' I download a pack of them and I will get you the link as it might solve the problem

No sound ay...:rolleyes1: This is what I have been trying to sort but was not sure it was a sound problem.
If I remember rightly a 12 month ago when reinstalling windows. Windows asked for disks to be inserted but I could not find the disks so skipped that bit...:rolleyes1: I do not know what sound card is in the computer which gives me a problem as to which drivers to download. Had a driver program and it updated all the drivers but I still have the problem. The disks I have that come with the computer are:
ATI Radeon driver cd Ver 9.0
Nvidia nForce4 series motherboard NVIDIA nForce4 series chipset support cd.99.03
+ a few software disks.

Right, its a Nforce 4 board which means its a AMD based system which will narrow it down a bit..

Do you know bob the make and/or model of the motherboard thats in the PC or is it a PCI sound card in which case, it'll be easier to take the side off and take the sound card out to see what it is...

Now not being to clever on computers but don't think this thing has a sound card.
I have inserted the disk that comes with the computer and it says

ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard support cd for windows XP.
Drivers

Nvidia chipset driver program
Make Nvidia RAID driver disk
Realtek AL C850 Driver
AMD cool'n'Quiet Driver
USB 2.0 Driver

Hi Bob, the Realtek AL C850 is the sound card. Try this driver:

Right mate, right click on my computer, go to the hardware tab and then click device manager..
When it comes up, it will show a yellow question mark for anything thats not installed (hardware wise) if you could grab us a screen shot and post it up or even give me a buzz over MSN I'll see what I can do

It seems strange to me that if I use explorer movie clips open ok in WMP and play. If I use Firefox I get the problem.
