There is a few ways you can do it. One site recommends making a hard wire connection for the internet. The link below links right to it

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php

Havent tried it myself, but if anyone does, please let us know the results

I tried that first by connecting the router direct into the test socket hidden behind the standard BT master socket. It made over 1.5meg difference to the synch (sp) speed to the exchange. I then fitted a XTE2005 faceplate to tidy it up.

i have had problems with my wireless,

"upgraded" from 512kb broadband (hard wired) to upto 8MB wireless,

with all the wireless setup i now get.........Approx 0.7MB :?

it is wired to the port behind the normal phone line (as mentioned earlier) and is just crap, wouldnt even call it an upgrade, is there a site where i can check my ISP connection speed as all i have on mine is the Local Area Connection computers in the corner and nothing which tells me the connection speed

I use www.speedtest.net which is really very simple and one of the best around to use I think  The latency (or ping as its known) is quite high, but if your not a gamer, it matter little

You can improve your phone line, that will help, You can test your upload down load speed. It will change, every time. Point one. Band wigth, Your isp will cut this without tellin you, But you will still have your speed, But your contection will seem slow. Point 2. 240 volts, Have a look under your desk, is your network, broadband cables, wrapped around your power cables. Ive been called out to houses with no internet, And the reason is a thing called Data Rob, Its when the 50hz signal from your power cables, simpley Kill your broadband. Keep network and power cables apart. If you dont beleave me. try the speed test again, but only after you have moved your network cables away from your power cables.

how do i Improve the phone line? TBH the cable where it comes into my property to the Main Box looks old and tired....
IMO wants replacing.... But i cannot change this.... GRR.....

I will check my cables in a bit.... but after a few hours of being on the phone to them... they admited they were capping my speed due to me doing lots of downloading....

I have an email from them which states my service is Unlimited and will have no usage or download speed caps... for £9.99 pm......

I told them that unless i had these caps removed within 7 days i would be going to trading standards... as they are in breach of contract....

I have now checked my router status and its showing....

You only need one pair, for your phone to work. If you take your phone face plate off, you will see you have wires pushed down on pins 5 and 2. If you follow the cable back you will find a joint where the bt cable comes in to your house. this is the cable bit to change, just copy the wirein and replace the cable. Do it right, or bt will come out and charge you.

I done it before at my old house.......

When BT Came out to fit a second phone line for me...
the chap said something about it being Illegal as it was not BT Cable..... he replaced it and i got charged... IIRC about £100

Yeah they can do that. The cable you have to use is called, cw1308. I had the same with my new house, bt wanted 125 quid for a line that i put in, I told them to get stuffed.
