I see Autoglym has 5 votes but only one mention - this one.

Have used the standard polish and then applied the extra gloss protector which keeps it good and shiny for a long time. Always wash car with Autoglym shampoo as well.

I always use to use Autoglym, but it is hard work, leaving white marks in all the seams and cracks. Use to use a toothbrush to clean the white stuff off. None of that with the Maguires.

Agree, Maguires smells nice too

I agree Autoglym does leave a lot of powdery residue. Will just have to try out Maguire's on the new car then..

Used to use turtle wax but it left loads of little spots which were a swine to buff out, now gone to autoglym. but it seems maguires is the best according to you lot so might give that a go if this stuff isnt any better.

What type did you get John? Tech wax?

I've tried all sorts, but for me it's always gonna be Meguiars. I've tried the Tech Wax, and it's very good - better than AutoGlym - no residue and has an awfully addictive smell that will have you out there waxing your car every day after work. However, I prefer to use the Carnuaba Wax in the dark red bottle - it's easier to use than even the tech wax - especially in the cold.

My recommendation would be to do this...
0. Use only Applicator pads for applying, and Clean, Microfibre cloths for buffing.
1. wash the car with fairy liquid (this is the last time you'll ever do this!)
2. use the Quik Clay kit to rub off all embedded dirt from your paint (once a year job)
3. use the Paint Cleaner to clean your now dirt free paint (non abrasive, once a year job) You may need to use ScratchX to remove fine scratches at this point.
4. use the Polish to polish the immaculate paint surface to a brilliant shine
5. Apply Carnuba Wax to protect the shine. Apply as many layers as your poor bicep muscles will allow (by now your arms will be hanging off)
6. Stand back and admire your beautiful car.
7. Weekly, wash the car with Meguairs wash (the pink stuff) to remove only dirt.
8. Maintain shine and appearance using Quik Detailer
9. If time permits, lay down another layer of carnauba wax while the car is clean.

If all this sounds like hard work, be aware that your car will be mint as hell, and washing it each week and using quik detailer will take no more than 15 mins per week to maintain the awesome appearance. All the hard work (first 5 steps) you'll only do once - or once a year before show season if you're keen. In the long term it's the easiest way to keep the car looking brand new. But the rules are strict - dont apply wax to a dirty car, and always use clean cloths. Being meticulous will make easier work of it, and give the best result.

Carl Sorensen (Sorensen Road Sport) supplies Meguairs products at a very agreeable price in Faraday Mill.
