On initial start up, idles at about 1500Rpm which then drops to just under 1000rpm when engine reaches temperature. I had this problem with a previous car and turned out to be a faulty idle control valve. Gave it a clean, lub'ed it back up and worked fine ever since.

Had it on mine too so i adjusted the idle control valve and it stopped. though its playing up at the moment and still holding the revs up. gonna dive into it and strip the bugger down and give it a good clean out. Was over nicks earlier and he showed me that the hole where the valve sits on has a diaphragm that could get clogged up, this may be the problem. I'll let you know the out come.

Im still experiencing idle problems even though ive changed the maf and idle control valve and cleaned it all out. going for new inlet manifold gaskets now.

Try disconnecting your LAMBDA and see if tickover is ok then...

I'll try it now. got to admit i noticed the wiring was a bit dodgy on the o2 sensor when i re-built the engine so i tidied it up.
Thanks bob.

I did that but didnt seem to make any difference. what would that mean?

It means your LAMBDA is not the cause.. LAMBDA's can sometimes cause iratic tickover by reading wrong richening and weakening the mixture.

Yeah well i had a problem with idling after i got the engine going after the re-build and found that the inlet manifold was sucking in air around the gasket so i tightened the bolts down and it seemed to cure it but still held up and had a light on so gonna go for new gaskets.
