View Full Version : Haynes - Possible Problems
Ok you lot going to Haynes this saturday, i need your advfice and views please.
I have recieved a phone call from kim at haynes to say that the noise monitoring will be VERY strict this weekend and that they will be testing the cars as follows:-
They will be testing them when each individual car is doing 2 thirds of that cars max revs and not to the 98 db ruling!!!!
With the amount of pull outs and now this do we still want to proceed?

I don't quite understand? I mean the 2/3 of revs makes sense but what level of exhaust noise is acceptable and what is not? Is there still a 98db limit? I am sure our car will be fine for this and both Bjorn and I are still up for the event.
They are saying there have been problems in the past weeks and that they are at a critical stage with planning consent with the new buildings that are going up on site etc so they are wanting to keep on the good side of the councillors etc but after they have got what they want and the buildings are up then " we can be as noisy as anything"!!!!!!
They are being stricter on the noise testing and it is still up to the 98db limit but at 2 thirds of the max revs - with the possible wind facter to consider we may find that cars that have passed in the past might fail this time - i am extremely concerned.
They have said that if we do wish to cancel then that is fine and that we would not incure a charge - meaning all cheques i have can be sent back

Hmmmm - I know they were as keen as mustard the last time we were there in June'06 and there were a few motors that exceeded the DB limit but only just. The guy agreed to let it go at the time. So what does everyone else think? It might be worth pm'ing each of the members who haven't confirmed for definite that they will be there just to make sure you have 12.
I take my hat off to you though cos I know what its like to organise these sort of events - I have always been quite fortunate that we have had a good number of peeps attend these events and as you say there is no way you should lose out financially!

2/3rds is over 5000 rpm
the only time i rev my car to that amount standing still is on launching for 2 - 3 seconds
f00ked if i'd rev like that for 20 - 30 seconds while they check and test
i know i'm 1 that has dropped out at the last minute and i have tried to get extra cars/persons, to no luck , , but i'd say nuts to it and cancel.
maybe next year,i know its dearer but if we got 10 definates and did 4 laps instead of 2 then i'm sure we could get 10 between the 2 clubs and make it worthwhile , i know of 8 of the top of my head that would be up for it at 55 - 60 quid each
oh, and SP , get people to pay up front next time, 1st come 1st served basis,, you or either club shouldn't have to lose out . . .
i know i have a genuine reason this time but so often people put there names down then fail to attend .

Mine was over the limit last time, but its about how you deal with people.
We were let on and then not bothered for the rest of the day.
The Powers clan will still be going. (provided there are 12 or more, all together)

Indeed - the best way is to be friendly and flexible with them at Haynes. As Olly says they let us get on with it even though we had a couple of cars over the limit......its all about attitude IMHO. I think the sounds test guy asked that the cars not be revved to the red line!
If you do not have 12 I will be there and join in with you...No problems with noise limit on the WR1.
