Hi People,
with all of the problems we have had on the forum, the committee, feel it is nessesary to seek out a more reliable source of hosting.
At present we pay £100 a year, which is cheap.
we are looking at going to a dedicated server, which will mean we should not experience any down time, and we should always be fast.
We will also not have any problems with the sites i.p address being blocked, because of other members on the shared server sending out spam.
what good is a forum that no-one can get on.
This means we have to find money to cover the costs.
We have therefor decided to follow the suit of other sites and Impliment a Membership charge.
their will be a two teir membership system.
1. SWS Member.
This will give you access to the events, Classifieds, forums.
You will also be able to post in the Members Gallery.
You will recieve a SWS web url sticker for you car.
This will cost £10 per year.
2. SWS Advanced Member.
All Advanced members, will be given a vote on all Major Decisions about SWS
Access All Area's of SWS . (Subject to Age Restrictions)
Access to workshop data manuals.
Discount at various Outlets.
P.M facility increased to 500 storable messages. (5 For Non Members 50 for SWS Std Member.)
Message tracking
Deny receipt of P.M
SWS Image Hosting Facility. (No upload for Non Members or STD Members)
Buyer / Seller assistance.
Membership Card.
SWS Shark Fin Metal Keyring
SWS Web Url Sticker For your Car.
The Cost of Advanced Membership will be £25 per year.
A second Family Member can recieve the Advanced Membership, for £10 without the SWS Shark Fin Keyring.
Please send me a P.M for this, as it will need to be configured Manually.
Please see the SWS Subscription (http://www.southwestscoobies.org.uk/subscribe/index.htm) for full details of whats included.
You will still have access to the SIDC events, as these are seperate from SWS meets.
*EDIT*
Memberlist & who is online will only be available to Members.
*EDIT*
The above changes will come into effect from Monday 16th. to give people time to get their membership.
*****Update*****
I have recieved a P.m asking about the new membership, in which I was told tat they do not feel it is worth paying the new membership, as the new server is no Better than the Last one.
I would like to point out Our current Hosts moved us to a new Server Free of charge Because of all the problems we were having, however as you have seen this server has problems too.
The membership money will be used to purchase dedicated Hosting.
This will mean our server has its own i.p address, and not a shared one, which will mean no spamming will occur from our server, this means people's spyware, anti-virus programs etc will not block the i.p due to people sending out spam.
A dedicated server also means, only our members will be using the server, which will maen a reduced load, resulting in a Much Faster server. Dedicated servers tend to have between 99.8 & 100% up time. compared with the 73% we have had the last 3 months with our current hosts.
Hope this clarifys the situation for some of you.
