Had a few problems with the computer last week. Twas running so slow on the net I gave up posting and set about the repairs…
Virus scan was first. Clean.
Done the usual things deleting cookies and files. still the same.
Tried to ping another site but found the cmd command would not work. So tried typing in command the old DOS stuff. This brought up the black box but the ping command would then not work. I could now see I was having problems with windows XP and the command structure.:frown:
There is so much on my hard drive I did not want to load it all onto CD’s for copying onto a new windows XP set-up. I also have loads of programs I do not have the installation disks for.:rolleyes1:
So thought I would buy a new hard drive and set-up windows on it and use my old HD as a slave. I could then transfer programs from one drive to another or put shortcuts to the programs that would work that way.
Bought a small hard drive 160 gig and loaded windows on it. Then fitted the old hard drive as a slave SATA drives so no jumpers required. Could not get windows to see the old hard drive and spent hours trying to find out why not. I swapped the drives round and the old drive loaded ok and I could use the new hard drive. But the net was still slow so reversed the drives again loading up the new windows set-up. Net was very fast but could not see the old hard drive again. In the end I gave up and popped into PC world and asked the lads down there. They said its imposible if the drives worked one way but when reversed they would not… Untill one bright young lad said…bet you got Norton goback on the slave hard drive if you have goback and fit the hard drive in another computer you cannot see the drive. I uninstalled Norton goback and all was fine…back to high speed downloading…
Not really a question but might help someone in the future...
