Hi all
To those that have started running the cancer research program, please dont worry about running it anymore!!
There is another program that I have just learnt about over the last few evenings thanks to a mate who has let me know!
Please uninstall the UD Agent program and install this one. I'm sorry, but you will need to re-register and re-join my team, but if you are willing, please do!!
Here are the few details you'll need:
New Download (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/viewSoftwareFeatures.do)
My Team (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=RS4ZSWKXP1)
If ANYONE has ANY problems with this, please shout!!
Many thanks again :)

That's confusing because its self updating/upgrading.
Each time a task has been completed, if there is an update it will download with the new task. Not sure what that's on about.
If you already have it installed Louise, uninstall it (as long as you can remember your username and password) and download the latest version, by going to the download section. Install and sign up using that same username and password and all should be fine.
Please give me a shout if its not.

I hope a few from here can donate their PC power :D
Phil, I will look into it and see if I can set my servers on to it, if so that should be about 120 pc's just need to chack out the port stuff make sure it is ok

I dont know what port is needs open, but I can safely say I never have any problems with it as it just uses what CPU power it can have that is spare...
120 extra PC's would be an awesome amount of power :) What sort of spec's are they?
They are all XP macines running of a central server that I control, give me the link and I will see if it will cause me any problems, am happy to join in as long as it doesnt cause a problem

I meant AMD, Intel, ram size etc ;) Not to worry...
Links are in the sig mate ;) download link and also my team link. Only thing is, you'll have to install the program on each machine, not just one :(

If you could chuck that amount of processing power at this it would be awesome.
To help reduce the chances of such a contribution being thwarted by problems, let me offer the following advice. Take it or leave it. My intentions are to see some extra CPU clout on Phills team, not to teach granny to suck eggs.
1. Get the agreement of the managers to use company systems in this way. I'd mention the world community grid and the rosetta project, I'd probably not mention subarus or imprezas for fear of being told to sod off.
2. Run BOINC as a scheduled task out of business hours. XP supports nice things liek killing the job off if it runs for a certain number of hours too, so you can use this to kill it off before morning. Users will not like seeing their CPU's at 100% and will complain about performance issues even if they don't exist. Don't let this be an issue.
3. Get it all set up and working on a test machine first. Fine tune your implementation of it so it is bomb proof and so that no-one will notice it.
4. Do a google search for "BOINC firewall port" to get the inbound and outbound port numbers used by BOINC if you need to manually configure your firewall (likely).
Finally. Good luck. This would be great if it comes off!!! :character0009:

I thank you for trying this out Darren!! Good Luck!!
No worries mate, am only in work for a few hours today but will get one of the guys that work for me to set it up on a couple of test machines that we have on the shelf in the IT department, like I said no promises but if it goes well dont have a problem rolling it out and the installaition I can do remotely from the active directory.
Will keep you updated.

Ohhhhh ok, I only buy Dell optiplex machines have various specs but most are Intel 1.8Ghz 256mb machines as a minimum, are used across the organisation running the ERP software that I write so dont need to be anything real special.

Well whatever happens mate, I'll appreaite everything that you have done to help with this Aid's Research :)
Dell's mate?? Never hear good things about them mate :( I hand build all mine, its the only way I can ever make sure what goes in, is good enough for what I want to do with it :D
But the research thing doesnt really matter to much about what it has, its just the time that it has to use it on :) The longer the better :) But thank you, either way :)
The Dell stuff is pretty good, got over a hundred Otiplex's here, building them ourselves just wouldnt be viable to be honest, use a lot of their kit, desktops, laptops, have about 8 of their big dual Xeon servers and routers and switches and all sorts have a 4 hour response on all the mission critical stuff and they deliver on that have tested them once or twice.
My place used all dell computers also.. They seemed to go on forever and never give any trouble.. I have a dell laptop which seems more robust than the other laptops I have... I like Dell....

I just go on what I hear more than anything... So I hear bad things I dont tend to use them... Shame cos I could be missing out on some good stuff perhaps :(
