Ok guys If you met a new subaru owner and he asked you. What mods should I Do?
I would say Decat First.

it is diffiult to know where to start, more power or handling.

droplinks are a good 1st mod, ask Tiny.

My 04 Sti is engine standard and I am considering modifications or changing for a new Type C or Series 204. What would you do

Agent Smith

modify, but I am biased.

anti-lift kit is good aswell.

Modifications are O.K. and I like the sound of them, however the new cars with different turbos are said to be 320bhp out of the box.

Agent Smith

still not enough.

the jdm models are more powerful than the uk spec

have a look here http://www.litimports.co.uk/subaru.asp#

A new 320 bhp scoob should almost keep up with a 280 bhp classic... Power to weight....:hysterical: :hysterical:

I was thinking of a private jap spec import. Subaru Japan show the new series 204 with special recaro interior and high torque plus the spec C.
Modifications dont always add value

Come on guys it not just about the car, keeping up does require driving skills.

Agent Smith
04-01-2006, 22:07 43
the s204 is very nice

Welshy
04-01-2006, 22:08 24
Yes the S204 is nice and when you think about it who else has one?

The cost of good mods for this car will be more than the car is worth... Once the mods are on the car the car is worth no more than it was standard.
I think modding cars are for personal preferances. If you keep the car like it then spend what you like on it but don't expect to recuperate the money spent.
I know I have spent over £20,000 on mine and its still only worth 13-14,000

but what a rush when you plant it.

So if you want to spend the money the mods are...

Decat
Fuel Pump
TD05/6 turbo 18g
550 injectors
Mapping to suit.
There you go 350 bhp....:hysterical:

Agent Smith

headers & many many more.

bob

headers & many many more.

I got extra torque from the headers about 30ft/lbs BHP stayed about the same. But then torque is what you want...:party0040:

Agent Smith
04-01-2006, 22:58 08
30 ft/lbs, what headers do you have?

Olly P
05-01-2006, 12:50 10
I think what Bob means is that, with the addition of his headers, they were able to map another 30lb/ft into the car.
You couldn't whack some headers on a standard car and expect the same results.
The downside to it is the torque moves higher up in the rev range.
I still have the standard headers and I would suspect my torque comes in sooner than Bob's which makes for a more flexible car.
However this is really a small thing. It would be alot more noticable on a 2.0 litre but we run 2.5's which are supremely flexible in the first place.

Olly P
05-01-2006, 13:06 09
Ooops sorry:scared0018:
But if you want to be convinced of the 2.5 I would be happy to sway you in that direction.

Agent Smith

if you are on the race track, you will gain more time by uprating brakes and handleing........even with a decent set of discs and pads hoses and a laser allign/4 wheel set up you would transform your car.......being quick isnt allways power related.........

Good point....and that's why I always laugh at ************s I know who spend all their money on power with cars like escort RS turbos and old fiestas that won't go round corners properly:hysterical:

Good brakes and suspension can really make a difference on the 'limit' of a car.
