I'm looking for a brake upgrade for my P1. I already have EBC discs & red stuff pads fitted all round with braided lines but sometimes their left wanting when driven hard! I'd like an AP Racing setup but wondered if there was a cheaper but still effective alternative that someone else might of used?

I have looked at their conversions but i don't know anything about them or how effective they are? is it worth upgrading the rears?

keep the rears standard or a mild upgrade

get rid of them dreadfull EBC's

i have the godspeed 335mm discs up front, supplied with ferodo pads, retains factory calipers , £600 ish all in , but you will need a 14mm tap for extra thread.....
i have used ebc all round on mine, never again .
i have black diamond on the rear with predator pads, bit better than standard but alot cheaper

oh,and don't get drilled,,,, grooved,yes,,,,drilled,NO

Ive got EBC front disks and Ceramic pads. I was told by dazza. They are crap when cold. He was right.

Thanks that was kinda the conclusions i was coming to!! lol
How do you find the Godspeed conversion using the OE capilers? Are they powerful enough?

i take it you have a P1 ?
in that case you already have good 4-pot calipers.

i've done a few track days at haynes , ok,only a small track but tehy work so much better than the EBCs
the ceramics take a while to heat up , i warped all my turbo grooved discs after 1 track day..

i'm doing a track day at castle combe , my 1st time driving that track properly and i would never do that with ebcs
i have 100% faith in the godspeeds though

^Sounds like Godspeeds are the ones to go for.

Add some Goodridge hoses and quality brake fluid and you should have a pretty good setup:smile:

like mine :)

goodridge as neil says and 5.1 DOT fluid

Sounds like a plan!
I've had the EBC's for just over a year but was never really impressed with them, they're all hype!
Already done the Goodridge lines and fluid and that made a noticeable difference.
Anyone tried the Godspeed rear set up?

I've used EBC greens a few times and haven't had any problems but from what I've read on a lot of forums EBC stuff doesn't seem to deliver the goods. I'd never use their discs again though as the ones on my old car made the brakes worse!

I haven'tt seen the Godspeed rear setup but I reckon you may be okay with the OE discs and some good quality pads.

good advice

consider the black diamonds as they're a mild upgrade and cheaper than standard
got mine from motormania, discs and pads, £160 delivered :)

Black Diamond are apparently pretty good....they would be good on the rears in slotted form replacing the OE discs.

Looks like it's gonna be Black Diamond on the back then!! i'll have to get in touch with Godspeed about the fronts as they also now do a 355mm kit on thier website but i don't know if it's for the scooby?

bob

They also do a very nice AP kit....

P1 FEK
17-05-2006, 22:51 10
Yeah don't I know it!!!!! lol
That's the kit i really want but if i don't have to upgrade the rears much then it's not so bad. It's still alot of money compared to the Godspeed conversion.
WHY ARE BRAKES SO EXPENSIVE???????????

bob

Know a few that have had the AP's from Godspeed but these are track lads that track there cars all the time...They are well happy with them... Its not AP Disks though Godspeed use there own thats how they sale them so cheap. None of the racers have managed to warp any as of yet...

Sounds like it might be a route worth investigating as i've had fade a couple of times with the EBC's when driving hard, i've lost confidence in the EBC's. I had AP's on my TVR as standard and they're excellent.

AP's come with DS2500 Pads....Great pads....

godspeed come with ferodo ds2500 pads as well

oh,and if you go above 335mm then you need 18 inch wheels
335mm are just fine on 17s
my caliper is a nats c..k away from the wheel :)

P1 FEK
18-05-2006, 23:20 32

You may not believe it but the large the brakes the cheaper they are...

http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/general/entrancehome.asp

Look in brake section.
Tiley's get there brakes from here and charge same price....
So for 17" wheel Godspeed are cheap but at 18" and above Roger Clark or Tiley's are cheaper....

P1 FEK
19-05-2006, 21:03 07
yeah gonna have to be the 355mm kit, might as well do things properly!!!! plus they look the mutts nuts!!

bob
19-05-2006, 21:18 43
If your in the Bristol area at any time pop into Tiley's they have them on display. Looks the mutz nutz....They are also a good buy there but don't have them fitted there thats how they make there money on um.

P1 FEK
19-05-2006, 21:26 35
yeah i saw them last time the car was in for a service but i was gonna see if i could find them cheaper elsewhere. any ideas? i certainally would'nt pay main dealer prices i'd fit them myself they're not that tricky.

bob

For the 17" wheel Godspeed is the cheapest. But supply there own disks. For the 18" wheel I have not found anywhere as cheap as Roger Clark Motorsports. Tiley also get from here and charges the same. Tiley's tell me there is only £50 mark up on these brakes. They just hope for a little business by selling them. Also if they fit them they make money that way.
Most the lads have 17" wheels and cannot afford the step up to 18" with the amount of tyres they go through so have gone for the Godspeeds. However it makes sense to go for the RCM or Tiley's deal if on 18" already.

I've just been to the RCM website bet theres no sign of any AP kits on there? just a couple of standard discs in the wheel section.

bob

On that web site at the bottom you will find page 2 this has the brakes section

Will do thanks again. i've looked at RCM's prices at they're a couple of hundred quid cheaper than Tiley's from what i can remember for the 355mm kits!

not sure about not being able to afford the 18s but i have kept the 17s cuz i've been advised by many that classic scoobs 'go better' with these . .
i've always upgraded my wheels on previous cars by going an extra inch or 2 ;) 18s on a pug 206 , 17s on a 216 GTi etc etc
i have changed my scoob wheels but stuck to the 17s , may go for some white 18s for shows but definately sticking with 17s for track days etc

Mine aleady had the 18's on when i got it, they do give a firm ride and less tyre flex but i don't mind that. i suppose it depends what suspension you have fitted. What do you mean by 'go better' with these . .?

bob

Spoke with Simon at CC on Japfest day who tells me there brakes are priced the same as RCM....
