Can I chose the course - Bluehills??

I'm after the web-site address to see if bikes are allowed, originally it was a bike only event and then a few cars were invited; over the years theres a lot more interest from the cars (but a little less from the bikes). Due to the numbers involved now it was talked of having car only & bike only events. You probably guessed I want to use the bike again cos last time I did it they didn't have ETs just terminals (still had 148mph though).
Anyway need the advertising spot again as the Terrano has to go (£5k for a very good tow-car).

Unfortunately only made 2 runs today, after keeping up with the cosworth I decided to go for an all out clutch killer of a launch. and did exactly that ,always fancied an organic one anyway:biggrin:

Bloke called richy from sn was there although I think he said he was having clutch probs as well. did you get any of your times?

http://www.rwyb.net/timings/06/Sat17.06.06.Complete.txt

only managed to get into the high 14's although im not sure how good their timing gear was as there was no way I was at 125mph crossing the line.

graham22
19-06-2006, 09:25 54
Sorry to hear you couldn't make it Nick, was looking forward to seeing your mods & the results.
I only ran on Sunday and there were 2 Scoobys competing, the White one above (Kingofturds) & a blob-eye STI, was trying to get over for a chat but got a bit bogged down running my bike.
Not sure how the ETAs were looking but the top speeds were a little out, I was credited with several 168mph runs but the speedo was showing 159mph, taking into account speedo error it looks like top speed were 10-12% optimistic (looks impressive on the timing slips).
Waiting to see Sundays times on the Celtic Maraunders Website as hoping to have got into the tens (had tickets for two 11.03 runs).
Did any car beat the Hi-Lux - If you saw it you would know why I'm asking!

Graham

kingofturds
19-06-2006, 12:38 58
Hi lux beat everything, including the aston martin on saturday:love0030:

graham22
19-06-2006, 14:18 28
Didn't beat me, I was on the bike & ran against him about 2.30pm. Had me worried though as couldn't hear my engine over his so was trying to watch the rev-counter & the lights changing at the same time! It's a bit intimidating hearing him burning out then locking the transmission on the line whilst winding up his torque converter - all while I'm just sat there waiting for it to happen!
Still no sunday times on www.rwyb.net yet.

What times were you running as even with your clutch consideration you were looking one of the quicker cars off the line.

kingofturds
19-06-2006, 14:41 56
Had a couple of truly horrendous starts off the line in the morning I think my best was 14.8 but my clutch was beginning to slip in 4th and 5th at the end of the day. Managed to pick up a bargain uprated clutch on ebay though so will be back in september hopefully with a remap to get into the 13s

It was my 1st time down the strip so didnt feel I did to bad, although do agree with you that the terminal speeds were a little optimistic ,With a terminal speed of nearly 125mph I would have been in the 12s for definite.

plumbscooby
19-06-2006, 18:52 55
times definately not correct , hopefully be sorted september see you there!

graham22
20-06-2006, 13:16 38
Didn't think times themselves were far out (consistantly inconsistant if you compare previous years). Terminal speeds were over by 12-15%. Credit to the organisers really - they have taken some slaggings off before but who else in Cornwall has been able to organise an 'open to all' speed event - just look what you have to go through, adhere to and not to mention the cost to do another speed event such as hillclimb, circuit racing or even track days.
Best to treat the event as a chance to race other people rather than take it too seriously. Most people I have spoken to will do it again.

plumbscooby
20-06-2006, 17:35 18
agree with that they done well , nice relaxed atmosphere and a bit of fun . Must be a nightmare to organise with all the regulations , everyone i spoke to said they would go again so the organisers must have done well .

graham22
20-06-2006, 19:56 37
Glad to see a positive comment, I was a bit worried I might have caused offence with my last post. Not sure if any one knows but last year the Celtic Maraunders got quite a slagging off from another internet based bike club who does not arrange such competition events and it all went sour.
Appreicate most people are busy but from my experience Celtic Marauders are always grateful of any help but ultimately they do a good job considering they are not a competition club such as Pendennis, Truro & District etc.

Just looked at Sundays results, gutted but pleased with my times, my best was 11.03 and the fastest I could see was 10.97 - 0.06 of a second, shouldn't have had those chips at dinner time!!

sirscooby
21-06-2006, 15:42 02
I am assuming then in my bog standard (apart from exhaust) 2002 wrx that I would not beat much...

plumbscooby
21-06-2006, 16:35 59
you would do alright sirscooby , graham 22 was on a VERY fast bike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kingofturds
21-06-2006, 22:18 59
The scoobs held up well on the day, we did not let the side down  Got my uprated clutch coming tommorrow anyone know somewhere who will fit it sub £200:biggrin:

graham22
22-06-2006, 17:25 10
Part of the fun is finding someone with a comparable car/bike and running against them, if you have a few Scoobies then you can usually line up against different ones each time and compare how you go.
Because I turned up on my own I ended up lining up against a 18yr old 750cc Yamaha Fazer. If you ask others & they are quite happy to run against you, I also had goes against a Fireblade, R1 plus a tuned Hayabusa not to mention the Hi-Lux (the Hi-Lux was lined up against a CBR600 but he bottled it - I think that could have been a close run though, the Hi-Lux had the technique but the CBR should have been a little quicker).
I think everyone would rather see some equally matched quick cars/bikes against each other rather than see the Limo being left for dead by a Skyline - not much fun for either driver then is it? There were some interesting battles between a hotted up Corsa and a VW Bora Diesel, not sure if the Corsa had a 1.6 or 2.0 motor in but he was quick off the line, the Bora must have been chipped to hell because as soon as he dumped the clutch it hit max revs (diesel mind) and had to change gear.
All I can say is get your entry in for September, got to be the cheapest & safest form of motorsport around.

plumbscooby
22-06-2006, 18:10 04
   spot on . What was the quickest bike on the day mate?

graham22
23-06-2006, 11:19 33
From what I could see in the results it was a black GSXR1000K3 running tied down front suspension (to help stop the wheelies) and a few other mods (system/filter/powercommander etc) I was quite pleased to get two 11.03s on an older standard bike which I drove to & from the event, other than that there was someone who ran a 11.02 but I'm not sure what bike it was. The local paper states that one of the specials ran 200mph over the finish line but I couldn't find anything like that in the results - would have been interesting seeing him braking as I was braking as hard as I dare and the gravelly bit of track at the end was getting a bit close.

plumbscooby
23-06-2006, 15:38 19
you should have left them chips alone !!!!!!! good time that though . know what you mean at the end there with the potholes pretty scary at that speed .Be good to have a chat in sept at the next one , i spoke to quite a few of the bikers and had a good laugh with most of them .

Good watching them go down the track as well especially when it was a close race . I dont know if that GXR was there on the saturday , ill keep an eye out for yours next time though . Cheers Andy

kingofturds
23-06-2006, 18:15 31
That corsa was a 2l 16v, that 2l 16v clio was faster though.185 bhp and stripped right out, and badged as a 1.2!

Still cant figure out what is up with my clutch 90% time its fine the other10% its playing up like a biatch, anyone had any clutch probs on their subaru? in previous cars it has been a bit more clear cut when the clutch is on its way out.

graham22
26-06-2006, 09:45 53
May settle down again with normal use, mine used to get grabby after backing a speedboat up my drive but after a few days normal driving it would get back to normal (still grabby when cold). I only assumed it was a build up of dust.

125 pass would be low 11s in a scoob
my personal best is 12.666 @ 109.28
BOB.D from scoobynet did 11.7 @ 120

this was at Long Marston in stratford

http://www.shakespearecountyraceway.com/events/

i'll be going there 3 more times this year

anyone fancy it then come up
free camping , on site bar, toilets, showers, burger vans . . brilliant weekend away.
£20 entrance for the whole weekend and £20 per day for unlimited runs all with ACCURATE timing slips :innocent0009:
if you go over 100 MPH then they say you must wear a helmet , but BOB , NEIL SINCLAIR and MYSELF never bothered
still gonna bring 1 just in case

neil owns the white OMA scoob from ireland, running low 11s at 125+

just to add , mikee singh with the white v5 type R may be at the next 1 if his car is ready
he runs mid 10s

another, just to add,lol . . . i've been twice now, both times were 'test and tune' days and i got in 20+ runs on both days , alot better than santa pod IMO, and closer, lol.
hoping olly P might come up as well. he should be low 12s
