Hi there all,

Just wondered if anyone knows how to turn my front driving lights on my 1997 WRX STI TYPE R, there all wired up to a loom that shoots off somewhere along the battery but cant find anything to switch them on?

There are two sets of wires hanging down each side near the lights but they dont appear to be connected..

The wires that connect to the driving lights joing the loom with the indicators?

Lol...any ideas...?

Thanx again for helping me with my mot problems on a different post...its so good to have her back on the road..!!!!

switch should be on the dash somewhere...

if not, maybe an aux switch under the dash....

The lights are factory fitted items, and are Subaru branded as they are driving lights would they come on with the full beams?

As there are no switches on the dash or anything i dunno where to start, i will try metering the wires.

sould be a separate switch on the right had side of the dash, they shouldn't come on with the high beam.........

Would/ Should it be by the switches for the Intercooler Water Spray and the intercooler water spray auto button?

Cos the third button space is where the rear fog light switch is and thats not factory fitted just put there for the SVA import test.

Will have to take the switches out to see if there are any wires not being used behind them?

Thanks
James

I would have thought if they are standard lights then they would be fog lights not driving lights.
Fog lights should have a switch and driving lights should come on with main beam.

Don't think many scoobs had front fogs most were driving lights..as I said mine came on with main beam...

i believe mine are fog lights. Switch is on the right hand side of the steering wheel in between the ignition and the electric mirror controls

Were they driving lights on your type R Bob?
on my WRX they were fogs.

No fogs or driving lights on the type R but the last 3 classic's I've had all had driving lights and the P1 had those useless tiny things.

Right guys an update, i took out all the switches on the right hand side of the steering wheel.....and behind was a connector with two wires cut off going to my SVA test add on fog light switch...so i connected up the two wires back up to the conector block and took my intercooler spray auto button and placed it on to the other connector when i push it on now the dash lights dim just like when you have the headlights on. So i think i am on the right track, but still no power to the front lights when there metered? Is this cos i need the actuall light switch cos the switching is different on it than the intercooler one?

Also the other wires i was on about which hang down either side at the front behind the bumper are connected to this box which is attached to the battery hold down strap....see the pic attached, any body know what this is?

Any help would be cool....
Thank you
James

Hello there...

Right I now have a fog light switch....its all in, I just need to know if there is a fuse or where the relay is for the front fog lights now as i still havent got any power going to them....
I have chased the wires from the front fog lights and they join the sidelights then go into the wings and disappear.

I think the other box on the previous box might be for neons or something....lol

Thanx
James

Hi there,

Right all figured out now....i was missing the second relay for the fog lights as they have two, so after stripping the lower half of the dash out and tracing all the wires i have figured it out....just need to get another relay as mine was missing...?

Got another question that i will put on another post....i want to know what switch on the switch panel goes to the connector with the brown body..as the switch is missing due to an imobilsier in its space.

The other switches i have there are the Intercooler Auto button and the spray button and fog light switch so just wondered what the other one was for?

Thank you
James
