I'm putting a standard DV back on my 04 STi. It came with a Bailey one and it's getting on my nerves.
I was given one supposedly from an STi8 but it didn't have the elbow pipe that goes back to the large pipe that is blocked off when you fit a VTA. So I bought another one from ebay for a couple of quid, just to get this elbow pipe and this one is from an 01 WRX. Although both DV's look the same the valve spring on the WRX one is a lot stronger than the STi one.
I've been told that they are different but would you expect the spring strength to be so different?
The WRX one is marked with a big 'Z' and the STi is marked with a big 'Y'.
If anyone has got a standard DV on their newage I would be interested to know if they are marked the same way as these, see photo (the elbow pipe is now fitted to the STi one BTW.)

Ever since I've had the PPP seems to make more noise.
Even when changing gear at less than 3k revs.

Should not be the rev's you are doing, it should work on boost..Could be at 2500 but if you making boost it will go off. On the other hand could be at 6000 with no boost and it will stay quiet.

Bob and me put my stock DV back on the other week. Mine also has a letter Y on it.

Thanks Graham,
Thats got me confused now as I was thinking that the STi one is 'Y' and WRX is 'Z'.
What difference would the spring strength make? or shall I just stick it on and try it?

Put the 'Y' one on and it goes fine

It might just be me, but the car seems to run a bit better.
