hey there:smile:

I know thar the standard alloys on my99 impreza are 16x7. I currently have 205/45/16s on and I think the previuos size was 205/55?/16.
Can somebody please tell me whether it feasable to put on either 215/45 or 225/45 on the 7 inch rim and is it safe to do so.
Also just to add, when i was having my tyres changed at a freinds garage, he said my rims were more 7.5" than 7"

Thanks in advance for any help:biggrin:

Andy.

standard is 205/50 for 16s . . . .

if you fit a wider tyre then you need a more profile tyre ie 215/45 to keep a more similar rolling radius.
i went from 205/45/17 to a 215/40/17
the middle number is the height of the side-wall, a percentage of the width so on a 215 width it would be slightly higher than on a 205

try a 215/45

This is a useful site for calculating tyre sizes http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

Yep, I understand the meaning of the dimensions on the side of the wheel and am not fussed about rolling radius (thats why I chose 205/45/16:smile:)

However, what I was after was a Yes or No as to whether a 225 width tyre will fit onto the 7" rim.

Someone to confirm please, thank you

you might be able to get away with it.....depending on which brand of tyre yuor goin for.....due to the stiffness of the walls....if required i'll ring 1 of my contacts in the morn....

Had 225's on 7.5 rims but they did rub when anyone was in the back or giving it some round haynes. Think 215's are the best bet on a classic..Don't think 225's will go on anyway with STD suspension I had coilovers.

Scoobtastic you're a legend:smile: Thank you very much! I'll wait in anticipation
The tyres are DUNLOP SP SPORT FORMULA-R in 225/45/16.

Bob, I've got Apexi N1 coilovers and they are extremely hard....so I think I should be fine

Coilovers are OK the STD stuff has massive springs sitting in a flared ring the arch on this flared rim hits the tyres when going to 225's. As I said the 225's do tend to rub when weight is in the car or giving it welly.. They did not rub across Exmoor but did at Haynes.

Just an quick update.....

to say that i've got two dunlop D01J's in 225/45/16 and have had no problems whatsoever with them. They look a bit chunky on the standard rim (well they are 225 wide aren't they:rolleyes1:  ) but they stick like perverbial @*&% in the dry:cool:
