gone through it all bud.......thinkin bout tryin my ECU next!!....

tiny
16-04-2006, 23:38 26
does gavo`s have a mappable ecu? if not then surely it won`t work, may be worth getting that identical scoob to Gav`s back down and trying the ECU from that

Agent Smith
16-04-2006, 23:38 57
worth a go but would thought if it is putting in fuel and spark it would be a mechanical prob. It is however much easier to swap an ecu then to check the timming marks or pull off the rocker/heads to check it.

Sounds like a good call to me

thats what i thought......

stock ecu..

tiny
16-04-2006, 23:41 14
what year is Gavo`s car mate, think it was 99 mdel at the earliest that had the mappable ECU`s

Agent Smith
16-04-2006, 23:45 38
92/93rex

tiny

From talking to chris at WRC the other week its quite unlikely that your ECU will fit/run Gavo`s engine without at least changes to the loom mate

Agent Smith
16-04-2006, 23:49 16
will try anythin at mo mate......you know what its like.......

tiny
16-04-2006, 23:52 06
i know mate but like i said, if theres any chance you could get hold of the Ecu from your mate that let you check his today you`ve got a lot more chance of it fitting

Agent Smith
16-04-2006, 23:54 29
he's ringin me tomorrow,so will see what we can do........

gavo
17-04-2006, 00:08 31
are u sure you havent mixed up any of coil pack leads, i think that may be hard to do tho as they are cut to the correct lengths

another idea, would be to have a look at the idle control valve, that may would cause the characteristics you described, (its the thing bolted to the back pasenger side of the inlet manifold).

the should be 2 bolts on the top of it, which holds a magnet thing to it, mark the position of this, then remove it and check the rod sticking up under it moves free, if it sticks then it could be stuck in the closed position thus blocking the air supply.

you can also hold the rod under it with ya had and get a mate to start the engine, that way you can controll the idel speed with ya hand.

well thats my wild guess anyway, GOOD LUCK http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

And this was the bit that was getting abit warm Ed.

Can't remember but I think when you do an ecu reset while the ignition is on that thing makes a clicking noise but I may be wrong

we've had plenty of that.......

whilst goin through the fauly test.......relays clicking aroud the engine bay..

gavo

Well the good news is it runs.......but the bad news is the engine has got to come out AGAIN got oil p***ing out from behind the fly wheel :mad0213: ,so think im gonna look for another engine as i really cant be arsed to strip it all down again.

gavo

Phoned subaru and all i have to do if it is the crankshaft seal is pop the old 1 out and push the new 1 in dont have to split the block which is good news.

Agent Smith
21-04-2006, 15:02 45

Just gearbox out then.....

gavo
21-04-2006, 18:36 35
would it be easier just to drop the gear box then bob??

Would make life easier at least i could turn it over then with the fly wheel off just to see if it is coming out of the crankseal or not and would save me £30 on the engine hoist for a day.

bob
21-04-2006, 18:57 04
Must be the first job just to remove gearbox clutch and flywheel. Should see leak then If its just crankseal pop another in...

gavo
21-04-2006, 19:07 09
I just wish it was as easy as it sounds.cant be easy to that get the gearbox out cos it means drive shafts have got to come out aswell, surely it would be quicker to unbolt the engine and just lift it enough to work on it.I have no idea about taking the box out.

bob
21-04-2006, 19:12 04
http://www.ashlyn.plus.com/projects/flywheellessengine.jpg

Scoobyclinic had my gearbox out and new clutch fitted and gearbox back within the hour... Of course they remove boxes all day long and are set up for it. But to remove engine for clutch flywheel or crankseal is just going over the top. Removing the gearbox is much easier than the engine...

gavo
21-04-2006, 19:16 49
I see so just cat pipe off then and the shafts just pop off do they.was that just on axle stands bob???

so thats a day for me then and it must have been on a ramp.

bob
21-04-2006, 19:27 10
Car was on hoist with wheels free. Think there is a clip that holds the shafts in. When removed they spin the wheel so the shafts just pull out. Do not remember them removing downpipe but center section was removed and one small cross member. To be honest I walked to the store picked the type of clutch I wanted and when I returned 20 mins later the gearbox was on the floor.
The only problem I had after was the gearbox seal it started leaking. Same as Cranshaft seal but on back of gearbox. that took um 15 mins to do just centersection off prop off remove seal and replace.

It does sound so easy don't it...

Doing it on Axel stands then I would think a day...

gavo
21-04-2006, 19:31 32
may get a gear box seal as well, will give it ago i think.

bob
21-04-2006, 19:35 29
It was about the fourth time the prop was removed from the gearbox... funny though the seal when removed looked perfect.

gavo
21-04-2006, 19:54 09
like i say will give it ago. getting the engine back in last time was abit of an arse ache.
