View Full Version : Virus
I have a virus in a file on c:/windows/b.exe
It keeps starting morpheous and seems to slow down computer.
After a scan the anti virus says unable to repair, Quarrenten, or delete file.
So Scan in safe mode but antivirus does not find it in safe mode.... Looks like I will be up half the night trying to get rid of this.
Every time I start the computer I have a warning b.exe has problem and has to shut down. Click ok. Then the antivirus comes in and says b.exe has so and so virus cannot delete. When clicking ok this warning usually stays up and will not go away. BUY I click ok and it goes. I can then scan but find no virus.
I think the virus is loading at startup and then being shutdown. Finding this one a problem to get rid of. Searched Registry and found one instance of b.exe so deleted that but still no luck.

So sorry for the lack of attention on this bob :(
I'd do one thing...
Check in MSCONFIG.EXE and see if there is the file in the startup and if so, disable it. This should be able for you to delete the file and hopefully not have the problem.
Have you tried just deleting the program or the file?
Give me a shout if nothing above helps....
Yea deleted the file and virus gone but next time rebooted the file would come back and load the virus. Searched around but there was not a straight forward cure for it. Found a site that gave the info I needed. was a file called something ghost in the startup that kept loading it. removed that so the virus could no longer be made started in safe mode and then deleted the file that the ghost file made...bit of a pain really but going by all the virus software companies the file in start-up was not mentioned.

I find the best way forward for that bob is a format and a reinstall mate... Pain in the butt but at times its the best way to get rid of something that doesnt belong.
I think also, if you make sure your PC is upto date, then I think you might get 'attacked more' due to virus's normally being 'made' for upto date machines.
Having just installed Service Pack 1A on a fresh install of XP Pro, nothing else gets updated on my PC. I hardly EVER get attacked or have a virus on my machine. Well, if I was to have one that is....
As the virus is now sorted, thank god, I don't have to reformat. 100gig of stuff on here and I'm sure to forget to back something up...
Twas a virus from Morpheous looks like someone was ****ed off with everyone downloading free software...:hysterical: Teach me to check the files first before downloading.

I'd just use an extra hard drive mate and transfer it all over ;)
Its the same for me and my music mate... 250gigs of MP3's, its getting a bit much to be honest...
Dont use Morpheous, thought that had stopped working ages ago!!? :o Depends on what you was downloading... Most things to be honest are safe, arent they?!
Afraid not Phill tons and tons of viruses on the downloads now. Morpheous has a thing called Blitz that gives info on the files to be downloaded usually says suspect file. best to only download the files that say genuine in blitz.
Did not do a scam for some time but still had Norton running. Downloaded the new Norton and scaned the computer 2350 viruses... and just 3 adwares.. Surprising how much is on the computer without you knowing. One click and they were all gone....:hysterical:
