View Full Version : What power from a 93 WRX with basic mods

Following on from the "how to get too 300BHP" thread, I thought I would start another one just keeping to the subject.

Olly said his brother is running 294 BHP with the following:-

De-cat.
Fuel pump.
Some form of ECU control.

Induction kit?
Uprated back box?
Fuel - what fuel does he run Olly?
Boost - what boost does he run Olly?
Reliability - how many miles with this Olly?

Would we class this as a 'Stage One' mod? without FMIC etc?
Could the boost be raised and a few pressure regulator used instead of ECU control, or is a 'piggy back' the best method.

Would an apexi or other ECU upgrade be classed as 'Stage Two?

What do you think guys?

Moderator - can you please moderate this thread so it stays on subject?

Cheers!

As on the Previous thread,

I have the Following Mods.

Blitz Induction Kit
Blitz Atmospheric BOV
Apexi Front <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place><st1:PlaceType>Mount</st1:PlaceType><st1:PlaceName>Intercooler</st1:PlaceName></st1:place> Kit
XS Power Up- Pipe, Hks Open Neck Down Pipe,
Ported Ex Manifolds,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Scorpion Decat centre Section Afterburner Vortex Rear box,
Apexi Power Fc ECU & Commander
Manual Boost controller
FSE Boost Valve
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump<o:p></o:p>

all of this has got me 335 - 350 Bhp

Before the Apexi power fc, i had an Apexi SAFC fuel computer, and it produced 335 Bhp. at Ap Motors.

then i had the Power Fc fitted and Mapped, the car had a fair bit mor performance with it,
but at Powerstation it only made 335 Bhp again, however other cars were 20+ bhp down on the day, so i beileve mine to be 350+

i would say
Stage 1 :

Induction / Pannel Filter
Decat & System
Manual Boost Controller

Stage 2:

Uprated Fuel Pump
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Piggy Back Ecu
Front Mount / Large Top Mount Intercooler.

Stage 3:

Aftermarket ECU
Larger Injectors
Aftermarket Headers
or
Ported std manifold's & Up Pipe.

Stage 4?

Hi Derek, thanks for the reply, were the Mods reliable? and what boost + fuel does the car run.

My old WRX ran 270bhp with Blitz filter, Z4 ecu and full decat.

Probably could have gone further with a mild boost increase and new fuel pump.

6-8 MPG around town Derek is pretty nuts:eek:

Derek, is that right your car ran 350BHP on 1.021 bar (15psi) ???

Derek, is that right your car ran 350BHP on 1.021 bar (15psi) ???

Depends on the calculation used

http://www.centauro-owners.com/articles/psibar.html

15.22899 Psi the Apexi reads in Bar, and it says i am running 1.05 (NOT1.5)

it was Mapped by Simon aka Jolly Green Monster. it was going to be setup on 1.4 Bar but my injectors were maxed out 100% Duty at 1.05 Bar.
Hence why i want some new ones.

It actually only Made 335BHP after the remap but it pulled stronger and harder. It also gets me to my top end of 123 much quicker.

bob run his car on the same day, and his was down by 20-30 bhp iirc and a lot of others were down too. so working on the theory that figures were low then i should be 350+

I had hoped to find out for sure at Interpro but Blew the Engine.

Rednick. I am using the Turbo that was on the Scooby when i got it. I believe it is a TD05 iirc the early Ra had TD05 16G but not 100% on that.

I hope to have it running by the weekend weather permitting. if so i will pop along on Sunday to the Rolling Road, and if s a Space i may put it on. but this will not be setup on the new engine.

Hi Derek,

Was it the Apexi rev limiter that caused your engine to blow?

bob

Yea think it was led to belive it hit 9000rpm just before going pop.
Lad I know from Tiley's had same problem with Apexi his engine also went pop. He has just rebuilt and fitting a differant aftermarket ECU.

mmm, might invest in another RPM limiter only £65 squid from Demon Tweeks.

I just wonder if the rev limiter was set low, it could be tested to work without any damage?

The rev limiter may not be manditory for road use, but at a sprint meeting all it takes is one missed gear! A regular occurance for a dim wit!

As for the fuel regulator - not sure.

Yes I am a dim wit! :sad-smiley-046:

Hi Matt,

To me your 93 wrx runnning 17psi (1.17 bar) sounds just a slight touch high, but about right. Looking at a standard 93 running 0.9 bar (13 psi)pulls 240bhp and this was confirmed on AJ's dyno before we fitted the apexi. So the dyno made the factory figure, which has happend day in day out ont the Dyno Dynamics. Therefore a increase of 4 psi = 50 bhp on the same turbo, there are of course many other variables. A larger turbo and cooler charge temp will also make a big difference (I think, not trying to sound like a no all expert here!)

MY brother thought yours was quick, but you bought it just before he got the 4wd dyno, would have put the price up else

Induction kit? - Panel filter.
Uprated back box? - Powerflow system.
Fuel - what fuel does he run Olly? - Optimax
Boost - what boost does he run Olly? - 1.25bar
Reliability - how many miles with this Olly? - I think he got about 6000miles before it rodded itself due to over revving.

I'm confused.......How is 1.17bar @ 270bhp a bit high, but 1.05bar @ 350bhp isn't? They're using the same turbo.
My UK with TDo5 made 282bhp @ 1.1bar
Then 350bhp @ 1.2 bar on the 2.5 (on VF28, but I think the upper limit is similar)
Have I missed something?:action-smiley-060:

Thanks for the reply Olly, where ya bin?
If your talking about Matt's car he is quoting 290BHP @ 1.17bar (17psi)
Yours made 282BHP @ 1.1bar (16psi)
Standard 240BHP @ 0.9bar (13psi)

Seems a good comparison to me.

What caused your bruv car to over rev, any ideas?
Before you modded your car did the engine go?
