I wouldn't fit it to my car, personally.

it is a Genuine Superchips Chip for an Impreza.
I have got one here that Bigals wants me to sell for him.
I have discovered that the Superchips (Chip) for the Impreza is only a Fuel Cut Defender.
I argue that Superchips should not be able to to sell it as a Superchip as it is not one.

I don't want to sound like I'm defending Superchips, but "Superchips" is just a brand name. They could sell "turbocharged french fries" if they wanted to.
Unfortunately, the term "superchip" has become synonymous with the generic , more commonly used term "chipped" referring to an interfering, electronic modification that might change some performance characteristic of the vehicle by means of messing about with the signals received by the ECU.
I think the phrases "chipped" and "remapped" are too often, glibly used by people who don't really understand what it means.
I couldn't remap an ECU with or without the tools to do it. I'd blow the bloody engine up, cos I'd either get it wrong or I'd take too long about it and the engine would overheat before I'd got anywhere near a result.
If you want your car to go faster, either buy a faster car or be prepared to pay for the proper hardware and the services of a professional tuner.
People tend to be too quick to trust a "brand name" product as being safe to use in their car too. For example, Subaru didn't design and build the impreza with the intention of adding a fuel cut feature just cos they want to stop you having fun when you least expect it. After market fuel cut defenders which prevent the fuel cut feature from working are not intended to be a performance enhancer in their own right. They are there to allow you to run higher levels of boost to make more power assuming you've made all the other necessary changes to fuelling, spark, cooling and map. It is then assumed to be your responsibility to not push your car too hard for too long. Oh, better brakes might be a good idea too as you'll probably want to stop at some point?!!

Agree to a certain extent
Any ecu mapping software or aftermarket ecu is only as good as the mapper who is setting it up regardless of functions etc....get a all singing, all dancing ecu (motec, gems, Autronic) and do it yourself and you'll probably blow it up...take it to a well known specialist and you'll get great results:smile:
