Finaly bought the car to be transformed into a track car.
The plan is to build a car for track days and sprint/hill climbs but that can also be used on the road, on a low budget. Anything I can do I will and anything I cant I will try!
I wanted a scoob but just cant justify the extra expense with the economy as it is so I went for a first gen pug 205 GTI 1.6.
Apparently this car was going to be restored to its original condition for classic car magazine, not any more!!
Phil from SIDC has done the same and I hope to poach some ideas from his build along the way!
Ok, I have 3 sets of wheels for different tyres already and windows and cage are on order, gone for an omp cage as its light and poly carb windows for stength and also weight loss. Seats are Corbeau Forsa items and belts are a pair of sparco 6 points I had left from my touring car days! Dont tell Matt Neil as he may want them back...lol!
Brakes and suspension will be upgraded first but I do have a GTI6 doner vehicle for engine, gearbox, axle and brakes when required.
Exhaust will remain standard for now simply for noise purposes.
PICS :D

pmsl!
I wont have paid sponsership as I wont be that competitive imho but if suppliers who have helped me out in the past want to advertise then they can ie opie oils, my MOT garage and my website designers for free :D
Its a project i've been looking at for over 3 years now but never had the room tbh and now I do but cash is the main concern, i am 30 next year and still live at home so should start saving to move back out.......fpmsl! NOT! Sorry mum but i'm here for the next 30 years he he!

Nice one Steve I hope it goes well for you.
I have owned a few 205GTi's and they handle like they are on rails. And they are pretty quick too, but with a GTi6 engine it will be a little beast.

1 set of wheels stripped and ready for sandblasting and paint :D

306 GTI 6 is getting stipped in the next few weeks, loom, gearbox, engine and ecu will all be used.
Unsure on the driveshaft situation but will all be clear soon!
Canceled the cage order to save money and will re-order next spring ready for the new season.
Cant understand how 195/50/15 track rubber can be more than 235/40/17 of the same make but hey ho!! I know what i want for christmas Wendy xx
The exhaust will be made out of steel tube and boxes for now then a stainless system commisioned if i'm happy, prob go to enginetuner for this ;)
Steve
I assume the wheels are going to be white

Looks lke a fun project. You mentioned the possibility of entering hillclimbs. Just thought you would be well advised to check the class regs before putting a GTI-6 engine and box in it as that may well be problematic for entry into many of the classes you would want to be in. I am not entirely sure as I don't know what block it is based on but it would be worth checking first if you were thinking of hillclimbs/sprints. Just a thought!
Otherwise I'm very jealous, they're quick and fun cars!

I will be penalised for the engine conversion and would be put into the class your in but I couldnt care less whether I came first or last tbh!!
The car will be fully road legal but because the back seats will be removed to allow the cage to be fitted I will have to enter the modified class which is full of cheque book racers running slicks so there is no chance of me being competitive!!
Its purely to put a smile on my face and a change from everything I normaly do!!
If you fancy a shared drive in the pug at some events Steve let me know ;)
