View Full Version : Going for 300bhp
I have a 93 wrx that has the current mods,K&N 57i induction kit,Cat back system and a HKS evc running at 1 bar, would now be a good time to uprate the fuel pump and injectors.
imho any time would be good to upgrade the fuel pump and injectors as long as its upgraded to a sufficient standard to cope with the mods that you`re planning however, i may be wrong. do you know what bhp you are currently running?

pump and regulator.........you will see around 280bhp......bigger injectors and a front mount, then up the boost to 1.2bar using a electronic boost controller, and a fuel cut defender should see 310 hp......
The daddy you just fitted my mates front mount and must say very good job.i was toying of the idea to have bigger top mount and have front mount oil cooler.
no to sure wat bhp im running at mo,need to get it on a rolling road.
what would be the max boost i would get without changing the standard turbo?.

Why not have front mount and oil cooler.

Don't forget your knock sensor and afr meter:smile:

Won't you need some kind of management to control bigger injectors?
Or can the EBC do that?
The Daddy
14-03-2006, 00:12 11
i had no extra management on mine but it does come down to the setup....550 are not that big a jump , but if you wanted you could fit a apexi fuel controller, or an apexi ecu which would do the whole set up......
i know a fair amount of peeps that get a way with bigger injectors but dont need extra fuel management.......but every car is different.....

the ebc cant controll injectors but the apexi ebc can measure the duty cycle.....

Cheers for that.
So does the ECu just change the injector duty cycle when it reads too much fuel going in from the bigger injectors?
The Daddy
14-03-2006, 20:11 18
as far as i know, the duty cycle will vary with the information fed back to the ecu by the knock sensor, throttle position sensor, map sensor, cam position sensor, crank sensor engine temp sensor lambda sensor, mass air flow meter and maybee some that i have forgotten...........at the end of the day i am not a mapper and have limited knowledge of the workings of the ecu and management system......i just make/fit parts and paint cars and learn from my experiences and mistakes.....
well im booked in on rr day at plymouth will c wat the out come is,the only thing that bothers me is that it is still restricted to 112mph will this make a great diffrence to the read out i get?.Can any1 get me a de-restricter and mayb fit it for me for a small fee?

I thought you would know most of this Olly?
a lot of people who change the Injectors just change the Fuel Pump and FPR, to ensure the Injectors get the Fuel Supply they need.
If you put in Bigger Injectors it does not mean it is throwing in more fuel right away.
the ecu measures the Injector duty and it deos adjust the settings.
I have the Apexi ecu and it can show the Injector duty on the Commander.
The management system measures how much fuel the system needs and sends the pulse to the injectors, up to a maximum of 100% duty.
the bigger the injectors the more fuel they can put in before hiting 100% Duty.

it may cause a problem as they may not reach the cars full power curve in 4th before it hits the limiter...
mine was hitting 125mph in 4th on the rollers....
as for the deristrictor.....
now thats something i have never done!!!
looking at mine its in the speedo cable from the gear box......doesnt look to bad a job...
last i saw they where selling at around £90.....
Will have to try and source 1 before hand. ouch!!

Just a bit of advice that ive been given, the k&n filters are oiled and can in time bugger your maf sensor up which can make your engine go pop. Get a dry filter like HKS as ive got would be best but id stay away from the oiled types.

Green panel filters are also good...nice and dry:smile:
I wanted the apexi sonic but they didnt have any in stock.will have to change it for a diffrent 1 when i get a fmic as the k&n is huge and has to be bolted to the inner wing where the air box use to sit. Thanks for the advice.

I'd go to the inner wing filter....I think K&N even do one now for the Subaru.

Going back to the original question posted of how to get to 300BHP.
I would go for the apexi Power FC, might cost more to begin with but could save in the long run. One thing I did not expect with mine is the amount of info available on the hand controller, including 10 sec real time graphs for injector duty cycle, boost, knock etc...
Will also save on some of the equipment already listed - boost controller, knock sensor etc..
You will also need a FMIC and injectors.
Also you will need it mapped properly.
You can have a look at the apexi on Sunday.

Lee the Apexi Power Fc does not have a Built in Boost Controller, you have to buy an add on to get the boost controller feature.

Yep, your right, I bought the Power FC and Apexi boost control valve together, so I did not really class the boost controller as a seperate item.

You will definatley need:
De-cat.
Fuel pump.
Some form of ECU control.
My brother got 294bhp with just the above, using a Unichip piggyback ecu.
If you want more then you will need injectors and possibly a front mount although a larger top mount would do the job at this level.

Hi Olly, what year is your brothers car?
Also I forgot about the decat.:innocent0009:

It was a 93wrx.

Cool, thats really good power from a 93 wrx, what sort of boost is it running and is he using octane booster?
Broxi
29-03-2006, 21:03 05
my 93 has the injectors maxing at 100% duty 346bhp
i made 335bhp with 3"decat Downpipe, Center Decat, Afterburner Vortex rear box, Biltz Sus Induction kit & Apexi FMIC.
Really need some bigger injectors to get the 400 i am after.
Well i wont be reaching this target for awhile now.car will be off the road for awhile.
