23-02-2006, 14:56 28
Neither, just the confidence in the guys that built the engine.
Identical bottom ends are being run in the states at 440 wheel horsepower.
Gearbox is down to the driver (obviously)
Dazza do you want a proper 2 litre rebuild, good for 380/380? 2.5k + vat fitted!!!
Or you can upgrade the pistons and rods for about 700squids to get 400/400
Agent Smith

Olly P
23-02-2006, 16:05 17
I'm not sure to be honest.
I would have thought you already have a crossdrilled crank and steel rods.
So it would just be pistons and the rebuild itself.
I'll ask what they would recommend.

Well its only a week to go, and I'm really looking forward to it.
AJ + Martyn had another dyno day there today, pug club, first 3 cars were down on power, and the next 3 right on the button or slightly up.
First 3 cars all had the bolt on induction kits - say no more!

Hi every one!
To save lots of time and help you to get the best results possible from the Dyno Day could you please fill out this form http://www.wrx.co.uk/images/DYNO FORM.pdf , it will help AJ and Martyn to know what is expected of the cars before the runs starts, vital information considering the number of modified cars that should turn up. Spare forms will be available on the day.

Yeah, meaning mine scoobtastic, not yours :sad-smiley-046:
I took some leave from work today and replaced some dodgy looking rubber along the induction tract with some new, tightly fitting samco, cleaned inside every pipe, re-sealed and double checked every join from the MAF all the way back to the turbo itself, then changed my fuel filter out with a new one from Roger Clarke and finally put some STP injector cleaner in and topped up with super. Thats all I can do for the minute. My fuel pump is brand new anyway, I did that before the first dyno sesh and it ran rich back then, like it should.
I've been over and booked in for another run on the rollers with Martyn on Monday at 15:00. My fingers are crossed, but sods law it's the MAF.
Luckily, I live locally and don't have to go over atmospheric pressure, so the car won't get pushed again until this is all sorted.

Car now sorted. I put in new silicone hoses and ditched all the crappy old rubber so no extra un-metered air is getting in now. Also fitted inline fuel press gauge and a new fuel filter (already got new pump). Also fitted a new engine coolant temperature sensor. Spent 2 hours with Alan Jeffery this morning on the rolling road with 3 MAF sensors (2 of my own and one of AJ's) and ultimately drew the conclusion that my filter was flowing air along the inner surface of the pipe but not the centre leaving the MAF hot wire blissfully unaware of the flow of air (eye of the storm scenario). AJ is a legend for leaving me to my own car in between runs to faff about with induction kits and MAF's before running it up again and analyzing the outcome. Thanks AJ for your time, the following graphs (red before and blue after show my car is now running safer AFR, more power and excellent gain in the low to mid range). Note: this is not the result of mapping as my car runs a standard ECU. It proves the point that those who have fitted induction kits to imprezas need to get their arses down to alan and book some time with him to ensure their cars are happy with the mods made to them.

Shouldn't the torque and bhp curves cross over at 5252rpm?
Thought that was part of the basic calculation and is set in stone so they should always be like that.
Oh btw, my induction kit is working perfectly well thanks.

Should be 5252 as Olly says we have had this before at a few places. If its the Graphs not printing in the right places is the turbo also coming in earlier than it states or is that little bit right?:hysterical: :hysterical:

(red before and blue after show my car is now running safer AFR, more power and excellent gain in the low to mid range).
Just to clarify further, the red line was taken at the SWS dyno day, and the blue one taken after the car was fixed.
Not sure about the BHP Torque lines crossing, thats depend on the scale of each graph? The 5250 calculation is 'set in stone' but if the right hand scale reaches above the top value then does the graph auto scale downwards? not sure if they should alway by consistant.
But then again what do I know, I still get confused between AFR being rich or weak! LOL
NEWS UPDATE... Just read though the Japerformance mag containing the Nissan 300ZX TT owners dyno day at Surrey Rolling Road (dyno dynamics) and all the BHP/Torque graphs cross at 5252.
cyberfella
18-04-2006, 16:44 16
The curves would cross at 235BHP at 5252 RPM if there was a single scale on the y axis representing both power and torque. however, there are two y axes and they are scaled differently too, to ultimately get a readable, presentable graph. red is before and blue after, so where you see them crossing just means that at that particular place in the rev range there is no difference.
Best we get our heads around these dyno graphs cos I dare say a few more will start appearing on here. its a great way (albeit a little geeky) to show off the fruits of your modding programme and remaps to your forum buddies. maybe it deserves it's own gallery? or maybe they should go in the existing gallery?? I dunno, you lot decide ;o)
