Just like to discus with you all the great point Mr H made regarding the "motor trade"....
Mr H:
"you forgot to mention how the motor industry have had it good for years wheres all the profits gone ?? take ford as a example for years we could buy a car cheeper in germany they have been ripping the british off for years . now they want even more taxpayers money . i havent seen any local new car dealers with discount like you get in the high street"
Yours views will be appreciated....

i wasnt being rude just my opinion thats all .. classic example look at austin rover the goverment bailed em out and they still went down the toilet.. the underlying problem is to obvious we dont make things anymore things are mass produced quicker than we can buy them ,, the only way to sort the motor industry out is for the goverment to sponsor old car removal like they do in japan a car has a ten year life then it is recycled with a grant from the goverment

Apparently this is being considered at the moment. There is talk of £2000 being given for old cars! (with conditions no doubt). This was debated about ten years ago though and got nowhere then, but maybe with the meltdown of new car manufacturing it will will come to something this time?

all they will do is add it to the price of a new car

Not a problem dude, it wasnt taken like that and was a very good point...
I think the goverment needs to do more in terms recycling cars ect...The idea from Japan is a great one and should be looked into.

Having worked with various differant manufacturers over the years to improve productivity and reliability, I can tell you that the car plants are extremely efficient. For example, Peugeot were taking one off the production line every 55 sec. The Transit plant down in Southampton could put a brand new fiesta in the back when they sold it and still make a profit. Automation has improved build quality and reduced cycle times so much, that the problem is over supply as much as anything else. But if the factories are not building at full capacity, it costs them a fortune in heating, electricity, air, taxes etc. You could argue that selling them at reduced profit would help move them quicker, but the impact that would have on the second hand car market would create problems of a differant sort. In relative terms cars are considerably cheaper with far better levels of equipment than they were even 10 years ago, and safer too. I'm not sure what the answer is, there are minds far greater than mine struggling with this one. But one thing is sure, it's going to have to change radically, and soon. Perhaps the answer maybe to invest the money more in R&D to look at alternatives such as hydrogen, (as a devout petrol head that isn't easy to say) and create more long term work that way.
