Hi, I wander if there are there any real world gains to be made if I replaced the panel type K@N on my car with an induction kit (4615981640) from K@N?

a good panel filter is good to a surprising amount of power.
some induction kits can damage the MAF, some years had very fragile MAF's

depends on how heavy the oil is....

I have been informed that K&N are MAF friendly by AndyF.

Only need to go induction when serious ponies involved.
But the noise is good, asthmatic darth vader.

Heard about the problems with oil on the hotwire with some filters but also worth considering is the heatsoak of a lot of 'open' filters.
A lot of manufacturers are addressing this problem with heatshields and cold air feeds but the OE airbox is very good at protecting the panel from underbonnet heat....even more so it wrapped with insulation.

it's the vibration that causes MAFs to break
the K+N57i is regarded as the best to prevent this
specially on my99-00
if andyF and bob rawle both recomend the K+N , then it has to be worth something
but if you aint bothered about going 340+ then stick with a decent panel like 'green' or 'STi'

I had a new K&N induction kit on the car when I purchased it in March 2005, I had to replace the MAF sensor a month later, not to say it was the induction kit but was advised to go back to a panel filter which I did, do miss the lovely noise the induction kit used to make though.

The noise IKs make is nice but often fools people into thinking their car is running quicker than with a panel.
