This Is NOT an official Poll... It is just for me to try and Gauge what the views are on certain Subjects.

Please keep it to a poll only and not a Discussion...

So we have the poll for Subaru's only on Stand... now here is the one for Show cars only...

My view on this is if we limit the stand to Just Subaru's to try and win best club stand... then what's the point on allowing Subaru's that are Tatty on the Stand...

We are attending a SHOW! therefor the car should be SHOW worthy.

But equally as important we have to consider do we want to tell members that if their car is less than perfect they cannot show it?

I think to an extent we can not go letting a subaru on the stand that is falling apart at the sides but i think nearly all the scooby,s on sws stand / club are good enough to be on the stand but also is it fair to go telling someone their car is not up to standerd so their for can not go on the stand at shows ??? Its a hard one

This was discussed some time ago at length.
From what I remember, the club was keen to win shows but was not prepared to alienate members who couldn't afford to keep their cars to the standard that would have been expected.
The best compromise at that time, I believe, was to look at a seperate "best of the best" show stand like sidc have. Not practicle at all shows due to lack of space.
I remember the consensus was that we were a family friendly Subaru club and whilst winning shows and making the effort is nice, it wasn't what the club was really about.

I Still believe that this would be the best solution...

we have a best of SWS Section... and another Stand for the Members regardless what they drive....

I would leave it for the coordinator to decide after all its there event...Most meets anything can turn up and they will be welcome..Some shows do require topcars on show...Let the events coordinator decide thats there job...

I think we need a club wide set of guidelines. It shouldn't be down to the co-ordinator to tell people they can't be on the stand. Thats not fair on them and will lead to some cars being allowed at some shows but not others depending on whose organising it.
If rules are in place, then it should be obvious to all if their car is acceptable or not.

When I was EC for that small period in time lol

I contacted the organiser's of JAPFEST AND PERFORMANCE DAY with regards to this and the feed back was good.

Below is a copy of one e mail

Hi Mel

Thanks for the email, Keep an eye on the site for best car and best club stand annouced on the website.

I actually have a plan for the padock next year, i would like to small a best car from every club attending to show off the real mix and scope of the show, watch this space.

Take care and might be talking about TRAX - 7th September at Silverstone.

Sorry i didn't make it down to most stands, I ended up on crutches for the show.

Regards

Ian

i thought that this site was for subaru drivers??? so why should people be discriminated for the look of their scooby??? i think that its a bit sad if winning is the most important thing to people on here! this is why we dont go to shows anymore..used to be relaxed and a laugh and now its just to bitchy and doesnt seem to be about the cars anymore??!

Completely agree, lets hope the incoming committee make this club about the cars again

guess im not going on the stand now then, i didnt buy my SUBARU to polish it every weekend to keep sparkly clean, i bought my SUBARU to drive it (fast), since ive had my car 4yrs now, the only thing i have bought for exterior modding is smoked side repeaters, and some wrx stickers.

the club shud have a team of shiney stand subarus to represent the "SHOW" cars(if thats what the club is about), and for the rest of us.......... well who knows, we can park at the other end of the field???????

You are of course assuming the current committee are not re-elected.

alot of the cars within SWS are all worthy of going on stand, even your dazza looking at the photo mate. (might need a clean )

but how many cars are modified to the max? and what does everyone class as show condition?
i think a bit of thought needs to go in to this before this goes tit up !

sorry, i know this is a poll but people have had a say and just wanted to put my thoughts accross too.

would hate to be the person telling some of the paid members on here that their cars are too "rough" to be on the stand....they are just as enthusiastic about the subaru club as those with a "show" car!!!!!!!!!

To be fair... I think 95 - 99% are... show worthy... iirc even Dazza's is show worthy.. as mentioned it just needed a clean.

imo show cars to the front or front line ( ie. clean cars, cars with decals, modded cars, their are lots of these in sws ) and the not so clean cars at the back row. at the end of the day they are all subaru's

i voted no in this poll

the day before a show, i actually take the time to clean my car but as the exterior is standard and the bonnet and front bumper are a wash with stone chips, my car doesnt stand out at all, and i even watch people go past looking at the cars around mine but probably dont notice mine, but thats the look i like, they dont take notice but it goes aswell if not better than some of the shiney ones. if i had the money i and in time i will get my front end tidied up, but its not a priority, id rather get some droplinks or arb or sumut performance wise, maybe thats just me.

dont get me wrong i enjoy looking at shiney cars and admire the people that take the time to get it that good, but get a "scruffy" scooby on full throttle on track and i wud rather look at that.

as for the stand, i dont mind parking behind or at the back of the stand, as for in a different place from the "show cars" i wudnt feel like im part of the club.

just my opinion

Here's my 10p - not every member attends every show - why not have a certain number on each stand and make an eye catching design with those cars, makes it easier for co-ordinators and EC, (I mean this for those shows where trophies are at stake) otherwise we do our usual!!!!!!!!?????

As an outsider you go to the SWS stand and see 5 - 10 vehicles parked up in an eye catching design with lots of members on the stand happy/chatting (maybe wearing club t-shirts, etc) - ur gonna want to stop and find our more about the stand!

I am quite happy to not have my car on every stand at every show, to give all members an equal go, and give the club chance of winning best stand if thats where the club wants to head - I may be able to put my car on other clubs stands, as I am a member else where - (I would still support SWS always) - otherwise I would park it in the car park to the show!! ; )

5 - 10 cars may be the wrong number depends on size of show and stand!!!!! ; )

UJ-CC did this at japfest 07

they had an area in the paddocks representing UJ-CC ten of the best

all cars down were voted for in a point based system and the top ten were on a seperate stand in the paddock area.
not sure if this was a good idea or not though , 1 club,1 stand IMO . even though i was voted no.4

lol, thanks dazza, was just a thought from me as it is difficult to make 38 cars look less like a car park, especially with the space we get somwtimes - interesting that u have experiece of that situation!! ; )

scoobyDAZZA
01-08-2008, 23:47 34
yeah, don't get me wrong,it's an idea to consider but after having experience of it before it felt more like 2 different clubs. and there was alot of 'big brother' going on about the 10 cars. especially as the 1 voted no.1 had about 7 posts in 4 years. and then all 'us' mates voted for each other. and all that crap. we got enough politics going on now without anymore MASS DEBATES

another thing about 'show cars'

ok, not being arrogant here , but mine is 1 damn mighty fine looking car, but under the hood it's a bit manky . i aint bothered as i rarely lift the bonnet at shows anyway . when i lift it at drag races it's only to cool things down, and everytime i do this, normally in the queue, it get's swarmed by people, with cameras asking ''alrite mate, whats the top end, what you done to it'' . . . . which shouldn't really happen at a drag meet, at shows i always have a spec sheet done, to save me half an hour telling people

olly's car isn't the mintest on here, after his off at combe a couple of years ago, but that isn't to say he doesn't deserve to be on a stand . . and his under bonnet is probably alot better looking than mine

so i agree with olly and tiny on this 1 .

Scoobywrc

My point was more about limiting numbers on the stand, in an attempt to get a better looking stand thats easier for the EC and Co-ordinators to organise!!

I think everyone should have a fair crack at putting their cars on the SWS stand at least one show in a season - vary the cars at each show - makes it more interesting - and that way we get more interest from members of the public!!

I agree about under the bonnet - mines minging as Harty will tell you!!!!!! lol

Orbs

good point liz but members pay money ie AM to show of there cars .

so if they cant show there car at every show then its putting them in with the door dingers

Scoobywrc

But I was quite surprised when I joined SWS - even as an advanced member that I could put my car on the stand - its not what I would deem to be a show car - I use it every day!!

Also we struggle to get members to pay up for shows by deadlines, etc at times - if we sorted it so that only 20 cars were on a particular stand (as we were competing for a trophy), those that paid up first would get to be on the stand!!

Next show - same applies, except if you were at the first show you sit this one out and let someone else have a turn!!

Its only a suggestion - probably not workable as we all want to put our cars on the stand at all the shows we attend - but if we want to win trophies at certain shows we've got to stop our stand looking like a car park and the above goes some way to acheiving that without getting into voting and politics!!!! : )

Orbs
02-08-2008, 13:58 44
i know what you are saying liz good idea .

but if we have 37 cars going to a show and 20 of them is going on the stand the other 17 will have to go in to a car park .

maybe do a stand in the car park double our money .

Kris
02-08-2008, 22:46 23
i think you should have any scoob that wants to go on the stand,
and then in the centre section the best 5 or 10 with low ropes and poles sectioning them off to the rest of the stand

this will then highlight the better examples and each one of those should have a stand like sticks with car details

good valid point Kris . i would say have 5 though not anymore.

and have advanced members vote for the 5 out of those subarus that have been nominated by the owner
no point voting for them that aint fussed either way . . voting would be done on a points system

favourite gets 5 , 2nd favourite 4 , 3rd favourite 3 and so on. i'm sure we'd get 20 odd cars put forward by the owners

i nominate mine

everyone has there views
here's mine, all car club members cars should be allowed on the stand
yes we need a centre piece tried to that @ rallyday 07, space we were given was no good for any stand plan
if we can go to a show with plans in minds then we don't have to keep moving members cars cause they do get
feed up with it.

i totally agree all members cars should be allowed regardless of condition! i would be pretty annoyed if i had just joined and payed membership then told that my car is not good enough to be on stand! but yes we do need a centre piece thats where the top cars should go! then the rest outside of that
