Hi guys and Gals
just a quick update on how this event is going.
We have a venue in place Called The Crealock Arms.
http://www.crealockarms.com/
It is situated just outside Bideford in North Devon. The owner possibly has access to a field for additional parking if needed also I'm trying to organise camping there too.
.
Devon air ambulance have been contacted and are pleased that we are supporting them and will provide the helicopter on the day (providing they don't have any callouts).
The Milky way has been contacted with a view to visiting there for an hour or so during the day to collect.
http://www.themilkyway.co.uk/
The Local Bobbies have also been contacted.
As have Torridge District Council to obtain permission to stop along the quay in Bideford
Once we have the necessary permissions Derek and I will be planning out a route to make sure that we get to as many places as possible in the time available.
At this time we don't know how many people will be attending I know it's still a little way off yet but please let me know here if you can
Cheers
Paul
Please Can I have names for this event now please so we can get an idea of numbers
Official Website Now Up....
***UPDATE******UPDATE******UPDATE******UPDATE***** *UPDATE******UPDATE******UPDATE******UPDATE***
I have spoken to the Milky way today and they are happy for us to spend a couple of hours at the venue collecting funds on the day they are also happy for us to advertise the fact we will be there on the day for a couple of weeks in advance also they have donated a family ticket to the raffle
We will be at the milky way for about 2 hours so would any members like to actually go into the venue with their children to have a go on the rides there is a group discount price if people are interested unfortunately the owner won't let us in for free (I DID TRY) so please let me know via a PM if you would like to as i need to get back to ASAP
I have ordered 20 more stickers for people who want them please PM me and we'll get that sorted.
I'm still to speak to the Devon and Cornwall Police about marshalling on the day I will post a response as soon as I have any details
With regards to camping would those who want to be ok with a small charge to cover the costs of the amenities?

PRESS RELEASE
South West Scooby Run aids Devon’s Air Ambulances

At first glance you may think this event has something to do with everyone’s favorite cartoon hound, but in fact it relates to a much more highly powered vehicle!

The South West Scoobies Club was set up by and for Subaru car owners and enthusiasts. They have chosen to support the trust as their charity of the year and have organised the North Devon Scooby Run.

The Run starts at 9am on Saturday 9th August 2008 from the Barnstaple Leisure Centre, visiting Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, heading to South Molton, then on to Torrington, before heading to Bideford, with the final stop being the Milky Way. Once done, they will be making for the Crealock Arms at Littleham for food and entertainment.

Paul Davis-Chaffey, spokesman and Club Charity Fundraiser says “We decided to support the charity because as enthusiasts of powerful cars, we fully appreciate this is an essential service in our county, especially due to the rural nature. We wanted to support a charity which is there for anyone who should need it, and the Air Ambulance fitted perfectly.

He added “We would like to Thank Alan Jefferys of EngineTuner.co.uk. The Milky Way, the car clubs across the South west who are participating in the event. Mr. Sticker of Plymouth, Mel & Mark of Torpedo Mad, Sean of devoncarshows.co.uk. And finally any parties interested in becoming involved please email derek@ndcr.co.uk or paul@ndcr.co.uk

Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust said “We would like to thank the organizing committee for all their hard work in putting together this Run and hope everyone has a fantastic time.

She added “The service is totally independent of Government funding so community events such as this are absolutely vital in order to ensure the Devon’s two Air Ambulances will continue to be there for everyone who lives, works or holidays in Devon. With a new generation aircraft arriving this autumn, bought by the charity, it’s even more important to secure the funding we need to maintain the service, and indeed increases, in order to cover rising costs such as fuel.”

-Ends –

Notes
·Devon Air Ambulance Trust is the charity which raises the funds to keep both Air Ambulances in Devon flying
·It costs over £3 million each year to keep both helicopters flying
·Devon has 2 Air Ambulances – one based in Exeter, the other in North Devon

No worries - we were thinking of organising the club day in August anyway so we will put our efforts into this instead : )
count us lot in what charity is it going to be for ? if you want to get us a better name and image round here may i suggest childrens hospice south west or the hospice for people with terminal illness in barnstaple
Broxi

Children's Hospice South West?
Two words to that Mr H...
look at the last time we went to them we were going to give to the kids, at XMAS and they threw it back in our faces....after they seen the SIDC Video Jacqui asked me to show them of another charity event.
Me and Sally both think it should go to the Air Ambulance... as we all drive, it is something one of us may need to use. Although we all hope none of us ever do.
Paul P1
08-04-2008, 18:20 57
I agree with you on that Derek and hopefully most other people will too as most area's have an air ambulance and they are all self funding so i hope that everyone else agrees your thoughts please

Maybe we could get Lantern FM down.
Last year the mini club had a record attempt for the most ammount of minis in one place.
They had Bideford Quay car park next to Taxi Rank cordoned off and had collection buckets.
It's just a thought.
now that is a bang on idea we could do a proper scooby run like the minis do oh and put it in the gazzete and journal as well as lantern fm

Once we have the neccesary permissions Derek and I will be planning out a route to make sure that we get to as many places as possible in the time available.
At this time we don't know how many people will be attending I know it's still a little way off yet but please let me know here if you can

A good choice. Littleham is a nice, safe, quiet village and The Crealock is situated about 50 yards down a lane off the roadside. Meaning we could be a bit noisy without upsetting the locals.
The owner Rick is a nice bloke and should do us well.
Rick used to be the head chef at Tantons in Bideford so the foods excellent aswell:wink:

I have recieved a phone call from Devon Air Ambulance with reference to the Charity run
They will be doing a massive press release covering all local and regional newspapers, Local radio stations covering the area, Tv advertising has been asked for too & coverage in car magazines hence the request for names of them.
They will also be supplying us a few more collecting tins and buckets for Devon, performance and modified show.
I will also be talking to local radio station Lantern FM and asking them to attend on the day to lend their support.
It has been suggested to me that we get marshalls to stop traffic on roundabouts so that we all stay together in convoy. Do we have any volunteers for this (would be alot easier if they were on motorbikes)
Thanks

Nice talking to you today Steve
thanks for your suggestion regarding the petrol stations
For those of you who will only run your cars on V-Power the nearest staion to us in North Devon is situated at Tiverton Services J27 of the M5 just before you join the A361 North devon Link road. So my suggestion to those of you might be that you could fill up there before you come the rest of the way as the run will be about 75 miles roughly. Once Derek and I have got the exact route we will post up the exact mileage for you all.

Great update Paul.
btw, one issue that was raised in discussion over the w/e (apologies in advance if this has already been addressed) was that those not local to N Devon will be trying to get to Barnstaple early on a Saturday in the middle of the Holiday season. This usually sees the M5 and Link Road chocker ! Any thoughts about folks from ASW maybe coming down on Friday night so they don't get caught in Grockle jams ? Extra night's camping somewhere, perhaps ?

1. As far as i'm aware the karaoke will be on the veranda all the guy asks is that it is under cover Have to ok with landlord though)
2. I will also ask him about the use of the field for 2 nights to accomodate the ASW lot

At the moment there are 15 members some with wives/g,friends and kids camping some for 2 nights, is one thunderbox :sick0019: going to be enough?? and there maybe more yet especially if we have good weather.
Also what time can we turn up on the friday cos I'm taking a half day off work so as not to get caught up in any traffic.
